Myself and my two partners, Davarian Hall of Gainesville Fl and the reknowned anthropologist, Dr. Peter Lerche of Chachapoyas, Peru, have begun an ambitious project. We are responding to a plea sent to us by the Awajun Native Americans, the second largest group of aboriginal peoples in Peru. They are in desperate fear of losing their traditional culture, with its rich traditions that can apply to the peoples of our entire planet.

This is not meant to be a plea for charity, rather we are looking for seed money to assist them in self-funding development on their terms, not ours.

We ask that you visit our gofundme page and share it with all your contacts. They speak for themselves; all I have done is translate their missive.

i know this is not auto-related but as a faithful member of the forum since 2010 I am hoping the other members won't mind too much:

"We, the indigenous authorities, the leaders who sign below, have met with the community in order to solve the problems in our environment and to somehow also solve the loss of our ancestral culture. The result of the arrival of modern Western education has been a neglect of our heritage and our assimilation into the culture of the outside world, and we realize that the Awajún people are forgetting their own culture. [Bold added for emphasis] However we still have time, and with an effort we can recover a favorable percentage of the old ways by effecting gradual change. In order to achieve the objective we propose the CONSTRUCTION OF AN AWAJUN CULTURAL CENTER, in the Native community of Puerto Tunduza in the Nieva district, with the assistance of Anthropologist Dr. Peter Thomas Lerche as coordinator of the Project, to help recover the Awajún culture. Likewise, Mr. Miguel Ampush Chamikag and his team would be the direct link for any management and communication about the progress of the project. We project that the other communities of the province of Condorcanqui Province will also be beneficiaries as indigenous peoples. Once again we are asking Anthropologist Peter Thomas to represent us as a person who knows our problems and who will help achieve the goals of the Native communities of the Nieva River. We affirm the text of this document with our signatures.
Puerto Tunduza, October 3, 2023"

The cultural center will tentatively be called "Inia Muunta Jeé," which may be rendered in English as, 'House of Our Wise Men'. As the Center will be near the main road connecting the coast with the Marañón (Amazonas) River, it occupies a strategic position. So it will serve the communities in the Marañón and Nieva river systems (or more).

Despite using the illustrious name of a respected historical figure from Peruvian history, this 20th century movement was violent and communist in nature.

if communism appeals to you, I suggest you live in a communist country for a few years and report back on your experiences with bread lines and political repression.

You won't find any sympathy here. (Not that this forum is a place for politics.)

What is more violent is the US and its aggressive foreign policy, especially towards Latin America, where it has promulgated its longstanding policy, reflected in its  "Monroe Doctrine". According to this doctrine the US has been using a well tried and proven formula in asserting its hegemony over the region. This formula includes an orchestrated campaign at fomenting violence and uprisings, resorting to bellicose threats, assassinations, military coups, kidnappings and torture coupled with financial and economic leverage and blackmail or outright invasion of countries refusing to bend to USA's Imperial will. The US’s history of orchestrating coups and supporting Right Wing dictatorships throughout Latin America is undeniable; Cuba, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Granada, Bolivia, Dominican Republic etc.  It has used the same tactics in the Balkans and throughout the globe where it is responsible for more interventions and wars during the 20th Century than the rest of the world combined. The US leaves nobody at peace, if it perceives its interests or security are at stake.

I'm fully aware of where this forum is based, who runs it and of its members, many who are NATO cheerleaders.  Too bad, we're not all alike.

Communism is based on "Humanism". And, if it wasn't for the influence of "Communism" people in the United States and most of the world would still be working 16hr shifts without the protection of labor laws and a social welfare network, including Social Security and health coverage.

I stand by the MRTA and its struggle for the rights of indigenous peoples of Peru and  fight against oppression by Right wing US proxy regimes.

Patria o Muerte, Venceremos !

Who won where ?

"The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.

Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary reconstitution of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes."

- Karl Marx

I'm not against your noble project to preserve the indigenous culture in Peru. But, there comes a point where a non-violent pacifist approach is simply ineffective. Just look at the way they murdered Tupac Amaru or Che Guevara. Nothing much has really changed. The CIA has most cynically created and sent the "Peace Corps" in an effort to thwart revolutionary movements by trying to win the hearts and minds of the poor who are oppressed by ruthless Right Wing dictatorships, enthroned to power by the CIA. I certainly hope you guys have no affiliation with the CIA goon squad. The Peace Corps is a joke. And, they have failed, miserably.

The CIA played its hand did in neighboring Chile in 73, murdering a democratically elected  Socialist President, Salvador Allende, and replacing him with one of the most ruthless long reigning Right Wing dictators, Augusto Pinochet, responsible for the murder of over 100,000 people, including students, professors, labor leaders and indigenous peoples.

Tupac Amaru said he will return, a thousandfold. And, that's what we will realize.

So, good luck with your work and efforts. But, we have a different strategy in mind, perfected by the Araucanian indigenous people.

What I quoted are first lyrics of "Wooden Ships" just to end this discussion on a light-hearted - if  also depressing - note.

 Well,your initial post is political.

Now, as far as the lyrics to the song you quoted by Cosby Still and Nash, I've actually never listened to them. But, I did look at the lyrics to that song. They're pretty depressing, but very pertinent, especially today when we are closer to a nuclear holocaust than at any point during the Cold War.
