1968 1602 Flasher

Back in the '80s I replaced the flasher in my 1968 1602.  Last year it failed again; so, I replaced it again.  BMW parts were used both times.

 

It failed again this year.  The 4-way flasher works. I didn't mess around with any wiring between the last two failures. 

 

These little things are more complicated than they appear.  Does anyone know how to test for a bad ground, or if it's the steering column switch, or if it's some other relay, etc?

 

It's temping to just replace it again to see if the last failure was just a bad flasher, but at $120 it would be nice to do some checking first.
