Pretty sure you don’t have to smog cars up in tahoe.

If you purchase a pre- 1976 2002, it is smog exempt in CA. 
 

My mechanic in the SF Bay Area has  a green 1976 2002 Automatic that will pass smog.

 

He is an enthusiast as well and is always buying/selling 2002’s.

 

No idea if he will part with it- What is your price point?

 

Its in daily driver condition IMHO- the interior will need work though.

It’s based on county and population density. El dorado and placer county fall in the no smog category. My wife is from north Lake Tahoe and still has her car registered at her parents house in Carnelian bay. She’s never had to take it through smog.
