    At this point I just want to find a reputable shop and see some of their work to find a middle ground. I am not looking for re-sale value, but I was hoping for a windows out/trim removed type of a job and I'm not doing ANY work myself. I wouldnt have ANY idea what I was doing. I don't see the value of painting inside the engine (even though it was scoped in my original 13K quote) as I dont care about resale and I'm painting into Golf despite the original color. Is it reasonable to find someone to paint for ~5K if I just want it to look good and not to make it 'perfect'? Right now I'm just looking at shops and it's hard enough finding shops that do complete paint work.

    Looking for a shop that will do a complete paint job in/near Sac (I live in Tahoe). Trying to avoid Bay Area prices where I was quoted $13K. Thanks!

    Hi Robert, if you are referring to CA smog, apparently in my county I an exempt! Learned that tidbit from this forum.

    After looking at a few automatics, and priced out a complete paint job, I have realized its probably more practical for me to be ‘patient’ and buy one already in that Golf which I have loved for years. Am I being super unrealistic that I can find a reasonably priced golf automatic? I was hoping to keep to a $20K budget, but perhaps I was crazy there... too? I dont care about interior or resale value, I just wanted it to drive to the beach and around town and keep in the family. Ive been looking casually for over a year, and now ramping up my search such that I will likely jump on a plane for one if its Golf + automatic, and close to my budget... thank you all! Elisa

    Hello, We have been looking for our first 2002 since January. This is our first time buying a vintage car, but have loved this model for years and have an excellent mechanic we trust. while we have seen many beautiful cars listed, almost all have been manual. Do automatics come up for sale on occassion? know of anyone interested in parting with one? We are in Bay Area, but open to shipping or regional travel. Seeking the car for occassional weekend use, not a project nor for resale value. thanks! And apologies for being a novice, but I have to start somewhere! EK
