Welding floor pans?

I have a welder now (borrowing older brothers) and I have some rust holes I need to clean up and patch. I have the sheet metal, basically everything I need, but had a question.

Where do I attach the grounding cable for the welder? Is there a good spot for it?

somewhere like the emergency brake ear or something like that. just make it easy to repaint, or best make it under something trim/carpet/gasket etc.

bottom of the existing floor before welding so you don't start a fire. Also have an extinguisher and some wet rags close by. It helps to also have someone for "Fire Watch" as you are welding.

You need to sand down to some bare metal somewhere, and attach the ground strap to the bare metal. I bought a magnetic ground post thinga-majig from Harbor Freight for about $5. It works great when there's nothing to clamp onto.

I just clipped my ground clamp on to the door latch on the piller. It made a good enough connection. Also the tar on the bottem does burn so you'll probably want to scrap that off before hand...

PS...If the sound deadening insulation is still in your car an air chisel works damn fast at taking it out!!!
