I've been playing guitar for years, and I fool around with the fiddle a bit too. A guy that I worked with, a machinist, had an archtop guitar project, I don't know if he ever finished it. But I've always been interested in making instruments (luthier?), and if I ever get a proper wood shop built, I'd love to try my hand at it.

It took him three years to finish! A couple professional builders tell him its worth between $3-4k! Not that he wants to sell it, but it is beautiful.

I am a total hack of a player, but can still appreciate a finely crafted instrument.

BTW, I have an old Harmony archtop with a loose neck joint - any hints on disassembling and re-setting? I have a sawz-all... ;-)
