Rearview mirror...how to get back in?

Push it in straight? Reverse the angle used to pop it out? Put in one side first and pry the other side in?

This shouldn't be so complicated. I must not be doing something right, 'cause it isn't going back in.

1. clean your hands first if you have a white headliner.

2. make sure cones at end of spring actually can move and aren't frozen.

3. set in place

4. use the heel of your hand and pop hard.

5. curse loudly because your hand will hurt.

6. clean the marks you left on your headliner with those dirty hands :)

Insert the one side in first as you've described, apply a small amount of lithium grease on the other side which need to be pressed in and it will likely work. I remember putting up a terrific fight with mine and was really worried about wrecking it. I consulted a few '02 hands and was told to try the grease first. A small rubber mallet was at the ready, but actually the grease was all that was needed. Good luck.
