WTF is this web- tracking crap doing on the FAQ site ??

I just noticed today, that each time I refreshed or moved on this message board, there was an extra bit of tracking garbage loaded in.

It's from this service:

http://www.extreme-dm.com/tracking/

But is it needed? I'd feel a lot better visiting the board without it !

What's the story on this ?

most forums that I've been to track their stats. You're not going to get audited from the IRS because of it (I hope).

ya, its just a counter thing, you're still anonymous. It just counts you in on some stats is all. Can be interesting to look at by webmasters, or anybody else thats nosy enough.

i have it set up to monitor the activity of the board and the rest of the site. Lets me plan better for the future. Nothing specific is collected. But every visitors IP is tracked by the webserver for security reasons. The stats mostly show the busiest hours of activity, daily visits, most common resolution, search engine hits and other various crap like that. Somethig that a lot of the sites on the web use. This does not collect your email address, username or any other personal info. I don't need or want that information. That's why you don't have to sighn up for anything.
