Piston rings....

OK I'm sure this has been discussed before and I hope I don't kill any kittens here but what does everyone think of Total Seal rings? Do they do well in a re-ring situation? I have read different opinions about them over the years. If not Total Seal what would you recommend?

Thanks, Rob.

If you do plan to hone the cylinders usings a real hone... and not a dingle berry hone/glaze breaker, little hone with 3 stones on springs hone then you may choose your rings. if you use a dingle berry hone/etc etc... re use your old rings.. those cheap hones do not make much of a surface change... they just make it look shiney.. many people fall into I can still see the cross hatch so it must be good.. that usually is never the case.. cross hatch doesn't mean good for sealing rings.. a fresh hone will provide the teeth to file down those rings to fit smoothly with the cylinder wall.. when purchasing a set of rings many of them require a surface roughness of a general equivalent of like a sunnen an-301 stone.. some chromolly rings may require a finer finish such as a an-501 stone and a truer round hole to seat fully... it is dependant on the ring manufacturer.. total seals though are supposed to be better.. a properly set endgap on a set of hastings rings will also provide similar results for about 40% of the price. if you don't have a end gap grinder then it probably doesn't matter... enjoy
