how do I get this damn thing out?

tranny-side shift linkage dowel on an early shifter. This is pin

that is covered by the tension bushing, not the pin attaching to

the shift lever.

I've been beating on this all afternoon (well... on and off) and it

simply won't budge. S'ok/liquid wrench doesnt help either. I

rigged a snaggle-tooth to push it out from the top, and ended up

breaking a clamp. Can it be driven out from the bottom side of

the linkage?

I really don't want to drop the tranny just to change a linkage....

You have taken the thin metal collar off the tranny end of the linkage, right?

In the older linkage, there are two pins, a horizontal one that attaches the rod to the connector (for lack of a better word) and the vertical one that attaches it to the transmission. Perhaps you will have better luck after removing the rod, I did.

yep- removed the sleeve and am working on the vertical pin. it's absolutely amazing how stuck this thing is, yet the linkage is still flexible. I think the pin might be bent..

You might try pushing the connector (I need a better word for this) against the transmission while you try and push out the pin. There is a little spongy thing that fits between the two that prevents slop. Perhaps compressing that would make the pin easier to get out?
