I've been thinking about doing something similar, as I don't have any speaker holes in the car except in the underdash panels. Since the top of the seat sticks up above the shelf, it seems like a pretty unobtrusive way to do it. Can you tell what kind of material was used for the box, and how the vertical part of the wedge is constructed? Thanks a bunch for snapping some photos.

It appears that it is made out of 3/8" plywood, covered in standard black vinyl. I cannot see into the box, so it is hard to tell how the wedges are constructed, but I would imagine that there are at least a couple of triangular wedges that are put in place to hold the top of the box in place. It may be slightly bent as it approaches the sides of the car, and held together with screws. It is probably a crude box, that uses the stretched vinyl to give it "nice" finished sides.
