want: e21 2.0 head

Bought myself a broken-down '76 2002. Needed a new head gasket. Got the head off and I'll be darned if a good-sized chunk of it wasn't disappeared, bridging the gap between the coolant channel and the first cylinder. Didn't have anything to lose (except time) so I patched it with JB Weld and got it running well enough to get it across town. Got it running pretty well, too. But anyway you might not be surprised to hear that the JB Weld patch failed. Time to find a new head.

I'm not looking for anything fancy. I don't care if it's assembled or not, though I suppose if I don't have to go through the trouble of putting it together I'd just as soon not. But I don't have a lot of cash to spend so I can't be too choosy. Just as long as it's a good solid chunk of metal with holes in all the right places, I'm interested.

Info on how to go about finding a new head also appreciated. I live in Austin, TX if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

p.s. I'n new to BMW-land so I don't know anything about which heads might be swappable with which engine etc. I'm mostly interested in getting her running, but any info about (or links to) technical matters would be great. Thanks again.

I'm not positive, but - I don't think E21 heads (even the 2.0 litre) are compatible with '02 pistons??? Morganfelder - shoot me email - I know someone down there in Texas who knows exactly which '02/E21 engine parts can be combined.

Also, you might check with Austin VeeDub there in Austin for an '02 head - they often have old BMW's in their yard:
