Vibrating/rattling shifter

The 2002 I recently purchased has a 5 speed conversion. The gear shift vibrates and has a rattle when the revs are up. Changed the shift knob but the rattle is still there. Is this normal?

do yo have a set of ramps, so you can get under the car & check all the fasteners on the shifter assembly? Things get loose under there.

Also amazing how many people have old dried-out guibo's that blow-out... that's a good thing to check while you're under there.

Usually, when the shifter vibrates, its either a topside issue or bottom side issue. First the shifter 'cup' that pokes through the tranny hole has spacers, washers and a spring in it. Pull up on the lever ... if there is more than about 1/16" of play, something is worn or missing.

Underside is typically the shifter platform. Worn rubber mounts, mounting hardware that is not tightened or missing, or the angled support that props the end of the platform may not be fastened correctly.

There is an early shifter and a later shifter. Didn't notice what car you drive but the key is finding a diagram, possibly at RealOEM.com and making sure that every piece is there.
