She drives!

Got her on the road today, well running around my neighborhood at least.  I need to do some tuning of the Megasquirt but even with my old tune it runs pretty well.

I haven't gotten on the throttle too much but it has significantly more power than the old M10.  It also idles super smooth!

I still need to finish the exhaust and plumb the air cleaner somehow.  I have one stuck on for driving around but it's just temporary.

The radiator is a kit from Northern Radiator.  You buy different size cores and it comes with the tanks welded on but no other holes so you can make everything custom.  Worked out nicely!

That's outstanding!

Great work, I hope it runs like a top for years!

Very cool. I assume, smooth, strong and reliable

The biggest difference is the transmission.  It is amazingly notchy feeling.  Overused, but it really does feel like a bolt action rifle!  So very different from the semi vague feeling from the Getrag.

The M10 idled at about 30 kPa manifold pressure.  This one idles at 20.  Had to retune a bunch just driving around the block.  I thought I was getting on it but when I looked at the logs I was only doing half throttle!  She should be really fun once I get her dialed in!

Another big difference is how smooth it is.  At idle and when just cruising down the street it feels like the engine isn't running.  I don't know if that is the hydraulic engine mounts or just this style of engine, but it's pretty nice.

This is great. Awesome work!

There was a Ranger at the local boneyard with a Duratec and I was thinking of doing something like this in the future.

Can you please take some photos of how you got the intake manifold to clear the brake booster? Or did you just remove it?

Great work! I'm sure that thing will be so fun to drive once you get the tuning dialed in.

I'd love to see a video of it running!

The intake manifold if from a Miata.  Luckily Miatas used th duratec from 2006 on or this would have been a very difficult conversion.

One cool thing about the Miata manifold is that is has 2 different length runners.  The shorter ones open at higher RPMs to help broaden the torque band.  I can control the valve with the Megasquirt so that will be something new to play with in tuning!  Here is a site where a guy cut one open: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=621046

The original Miata throttle body is fly by wire, so I found that a throttle body off a Jeep with a 4.0 bolts on and is exactly the same diameter butterfly.

I'll take a video soon.

Congrats!!   Can't wait to see the video!    If you don't mind, what Northern radiator did you choose?

Does it have a solid rail on the top and bottom so, you can make your attachment points?

Here is the one I got.  I set it up as a crossflow and it's probably way more capacity than I need but it fits really well.  The stock opening is the perfect size for this radiator!

The rails on the top and bottom are U channels, not solid, but I used the top to bolt to the radiator surround.  On the bottom I just made simple cradles out of aluminum and put some rubber to cushion it.

What are you doing for your Alternator? Stock? If so, how do you have it wired up? Mainly, do you have any wires besides the B+ connected?
