  1. No, its good to hear what other's thoughts and issues are. Maybe you take it across the border and ship it from there.
  2. Hope I got a good one. I have no time in the drivers seat of this car or any 2002. And yet I love this car. I can’t learn enough about it and really appreciate the knowledge everyone on this site shares.
  3. All sounds like great advice. The four speed in the car feels so sloppy. It’s impossible to know if you’re in first or third. Is there anyway to improve that with five speed?
  4. Just picked up a 5 speed for my 73. I am in Reno and don't mind shipping. Looking for recommendations for someone who can open it up and make sure it's all good or can do any repair needed. Thanks for the input.
  5. Sounds like a good thing to leave alone!
  6. Mine has one hole below to fasten. It is directly inline with the front. There are two screws on top that look to be the distance to fasten a shield. Wonder if the early only had three fasteners.
  7. New to E10. Mine in a 73 that does not have one of these and I am not sure if it was supposed tp. Do you know what year these came on? Thanks for making me smarter on these cars.
  8. Pulled the Solox off and put the Weber on with the spacer. Seems that the hood is touching. Anyone experience this and maybe have a soliton? Thank you for your impute.
  9. You are so right about black. I have an amazing metal guy with a great painter. They both are magic. I was planning on going to the swap meet in SF a few weeks back. Living in Reno they called for a few feet of snow on the pass. Lucky I decided to bail. Are they planning a reschudle do you know?
  10. No you’re right points are fine. At 70, I need to make my cars easy to deal with for my kids. They will be the ones that will eventually take over my cars. None of them are mechanical. With the way the government is trying to push all of us into electric, I worry that as the years go on it may become hard to find people or parts for all of our old cars.
  11. The car is a real factory black car. That is one of the reasons this one talked to me. Thanks to all of you who responded to my post. All the information has pointed me in the right direction. I will restore close to original, with the exception of adding the five-speed. Just added a Weber 32/36 to replace the gummed up Solox. Motor really liked it. PerTronix is in the future to get rid of the points. The car has very little rust. At least from what I. can see. Will know better after the media blast. Love this community already!
  12. That is the stuff I need to hear being new to the BMW world. Sounds like a lighter flywheel like on the 911's is the way to go. I'm at 5000 ft here in Reno so I can get away with the higher compression. Next question, where would you ship the motor to have it done? I've wanted a 2002 for years. The car will easily become my favorite. Thank you for the solid advice. Scratch the M42 after hearing the downside.
  13. New to the 2002 ownership. I recently purchased my first 2002. It is a 1973 standard with a sunroof, four-speed, and original black. My tastes run from a 67 SS Chevelle, a 57 Belair convertible resto mod with an aftermarket frame with an LSA to a couple of air cooled 911's. All my cars but one 911 have been a glass out rotisserie frame off. The 57 and one of the 911's are not built to be original. This BMW I am lining out the plan for it and will start in Oct a total glass out down to metal prep. My question is concerning the value of these cars today and in the future. Is there more value in restoring it stock or if I decide to go with a E42? Personally I hate carbortors. To have about 50 more hp and fuel injection sure sound like a winner. But is that the best way to go? The car will never be raced. The mission for this car is to throw a 5 speed which I've sourced to make it a fun driver. The stock motor would do a good job but is that really the way to go? Looking forward to opniouns on this.
  14. I appreciate the input. I now have a locking cap that carries the BMW logo, with no flap that works. It sounds like I have the correct one. Thank you for the knowledge. In my life I have had and still do a lot of really cool cars. But this little black 2002 floats my boat like no other. Full Restro coming this fall.
  15. There is a guy on eBay with an original locking cap with no keys. Can any locksmith as this person states make a key for these? Seems a little odd that the seller didn't do it if that was that easy. Does anyone know of a nice original for sale? Thanks
  16. Looking for a stock air cleaner, with the plastic tube and the box into the raditor support. Just bought my first 2002. It looks like someone went stupid with this base.
  17. Will you ntake $150 for the air cleaner? Plus shipping for coarse. Thanks
  18. Sorry, I am new to the 2002 seires of cars. Know Porsches but am learning more about my new toy, 1973. Are all the years do you know the same on these cars? I need the pass door chrome strip. Thankl you.
  19. I will take it. Tell me how to pay you. Thanks
