  1. I remember rolling my 2002s to adjust valves, but only loosening the locknuts without removing.
  2. So tried putting some 2002 VINs into the bimmer.work decoder, and it needs a 17-digit VIN while 2002's only have 7 digits.
  3. One has to watch those “n”’s, as there is Ravenna (two “n”’s), another medieval city in Italy. 😉
  4. What is RGB? Are forum members able to use a VIN decoder to find the build data and color of a 2002? When I put my Z3's VIN into this site, it gives me all its info and options. bimmer.work : VIN Decoder for BMW BIMMER.WORK BMW VIN Decoder retrieves detailed information about the equipment and production details of BMW, ALPINA, MINI and Rolls Royce vehicles and BMW motorcycles. Attached are generated photos of your configuration.
  5. Must have been that. I only talked to the original owner at a party a year after I bought it in 1982 from the BMW dealer where she had traded it in. She said it was "bronze". She just liked dark blue better. She could easily afford a super professional paint job, which evidently sprayed the engine bay black without removals.
  6. Yes, that must be what it was. But I could only look at the link I was given in an earlier post and it's not there: https://www.bmw2002faq.com/colors/
  7. That is a good question. The long answer is that my two 2002s have never left my mind, 50 years after the first one. All I have is a binder of road tests and ads, and a model of my '71 Colorado (the actual model looks more like Colorado than the photo). My Z3 1.9 has been disappointment to the memory of the feel and comfort of the 2002s. And at age 81 I can hardly get in and out with the top up. The short answer is that I got some tickets for the raffle.
  8. I had the car from 1982 to 1995. Plenty of opportunity to look. I did a bit of work on it myself over the 12 years. Replaced the carb, the blower fan, the exhaust, the felt seal around the sunroof, a window regulator. Added a cassette deck and rear speakers. Removed the transmission to have 2nd gear synchros replaced. Replaced brakes and honed the brake cylinders. Once I ran into the previous owner at a party and she said it had been bronze. I could tell it had been repainted because the paint on the trunk looked like there was poor prep under it. But I could never see any indication of the original color - anywhere. And I forget what the color sticker said.
  9. Could be. I do not see that color shown under Technical Data.
  10. So it seems the previous owner said bronze and in 1982 I saw Bronzit listed as a color. But from the FAQ reply, I see that my 1974 could only have been either Granatrot or Ceylon, with Granatrot being the most "bronze".
  11. I had a 1974 2002 from 1982 to 1995. The previous owner, a young lady who had bought it new, had it repainted a dark blue (shown in Profile). I never saw any of the original paint. The engine compartment and underhood were a flat black, shown in attached scanned photo (I soon replaced the carb with a Weber). I heard the original color was bronze. The term Bronzit sticks in my mind, so maybe I picked that from seeing it as a BMW color when I got the car in 1982. I don't remember what the actual sticker said. I have no record of the VIN so I can't check the color that way. I have read in the forum that Bronzit was not a 2002 color. Is that so? If so, what would a 1974 bronze color have been called?
