  2. Thks Rolller I am waiting on my 3 knurled nuts. The plastic bits were broken. I used JB Weld and seems to have worked. Everything had been cleaned and lubed. All good advice.
  3. This is next on the list. I am painting the right rear quarter presently. Once done with that addressing door closure is next and last things remaining on body. I'm excited to try this. Thks so much. Any chance you have pic of this?
  4. This is under advisement. Thks for the input.
  5. That is fantastic advice. Any chance how you place the 2x 4 in door jam with a pic. I would say it's out about 3/16" at bottom corner one door. Other door about a quarter inch. Trimming the seal seems like a nightmare to me.
  6. I've put in new seals and adjusted the striker in as far as I can for the door to catch and lock second position. Horizontal molding lines up well with the rear quarter moldind. Front to back is correct and equal gap.My problem is the lower door sticks out proud of the rear quarter.Door panel is off and I have identified the 6 bolts.I dont see how any adjustment could be made to adjust my problem. Any help would be appreciated.i've even tried pushing in that lower corner by ,no luck of course.
  7. Although looking at the hinge inside the door I have no idea where to slip a shim. I mean it has to between the hinge and the door. How does one access behind the hinge?

  12. Which model for the '76. At that price I may pick one up for that bad day in the futere.
  13. Early on in my Beetle journey I had the same problem.Hot start was a bear.Switched to E fuel pump and never a problem since.I switched to E fuel pump on my '02 even though when I bought it last Fall it seemed ok.Now that the car is almost done with resto lets see how it does with new fuel pump.
  14. I think I may try ceramic application
  15. Finished up the bootlid today between the rain.
  16. You might see what a clay bar would do for you. It will not cut the paint but will get it smooth. I would first clean the surface thoroughly and then some before though.
  17. Dude those bugs are a killer especially when they crawl for their lives on your beautiful paint job.You have to laugh or go nutty
  18. yeah I'm kind of straddling the line between resto and survivor.
  19. I wish it were. I'm sure I'll make it to the Fernbank show if you go to that as well as Gilmore show.
  20. Thks for the mention but you can see the rear quarter looks terrible. I'll paint it correct color not really a big deal
  21. I'm in the process of color correction on the paint that somewhere in 48years it was painted with unknown quality/quantity of paint. I buffed a sample of all the panels to see how it would look and take the process. It seemed to be ok and matched what I painted(sunroof, lower right door and right wing. Color sanded with 3000 grit by hand(I would use DA if it was my paint but since it was a bit unknown I did it by hand) . Then it was buffed with lambswool pad and Mequiars 105 compound. I will use finishing compound once I'm done with the whole car. Pretty pleased so far. You can see in pic 2 where the hood and the wing match at least reasonably well. I use TCP single stage urethane which is really pretty reasonably priced. I've used it on all the cars I've painted as well as cheap ass Harbor Freight gun painted exactly where you see it sitting-outside. Unfortunately because it's looking this good its forced me to have to paint the rfight rear quarter since someone painted it the wrong color orange. It might be Colorado Orange I'm just not sure.Anyway now that the car is starting look good I think it deserves a respray there the correct orange even though I really want to be out there driving.
  22. Is it just me or should there be more clearance between the button and the end of the console? I notice this on mine.
