  1. Pulled the Recaro my car came with out and put in a seat from a 73 I found.

it’s it worth the price of admission to get the Recaro reupholstered/restored?  In Seattle Metro shop recommendations?

The guy that sold me the other seat said this old Recaro is unicorn rare (his words( and advised to hold on to it.  This unicorn has been to the wars though.  Looks like it needs new everything...

    thx ??

  2. @rocketman recommend I do it after he drove it here from Sonoma.  Said it was was “missing” when accelerating.  He’d fixed or replaced everything but the coil when he put the engine back in, so felt the coil needed replacing.

I have a little multimeter somewhere.  What should look for on the old one to judge it good/bad?

The square tail light cars have a resistor wire feeding the coil.

I largely didn’t understand the response. Lack of knowledge on my part though.  The response was awesome.  Thank you.  I conferred with my 02 mentor @rocketman via text and this was his reply:

”He is correct. However, I found problems with that very wire being overheated, last Sunday morning, as I was preparing to depart. Because the points were previously replaced with the electronic switch(Pertronix), there was no  need for the resistor wire, so I replaced it.”  & “Hence I I didn't tell you  to do this task, and in fact it's  why I knew you could simply bolt this coil in place!”

thanks for the guidance, if it hadn’t already been done I’m sure I would have been flummoxed when just rewiring it as it was didn’t work.  ?

It will allow you to pull up part numbers so you can google-up suppliers to choose from

as I dig in to that, I wind up here.  Part found in these vehicles.  I gather mine would be one of the US ones, but which?  What do the “(xxxx)” numbers correspond to?  Thanks!

Below: ‘76 49-state version with original exhaust manifold and heat shield.

The weather here in the Northeast turned yesterday morning, so I moved the ‘76’s winter/summer lever to the thermostatically-controlled “winter” position.

Did you bypass the resistor wire that went to the original coil?

(It has a clear jacket and looks like a yellowed strand of speaker wire).

nope.  I just matched the wires to their positions on the Bosch that was there. Not sure if it was original or not.  Seems to run happily enough.  What’s it do?  Thanks!

  7. I need to patch this and obviously need the windshield out to do it.  The seal seems to be joined at the bottom middle by what looks to me like a big staple.  I’ve read a bit about the rope trick, but that seems oriented towards getting the windshield back in again, how do I get it and the seal out intact?  Someone mentioned spraying the seal with silicone to soften it up before attempting to remove the glass?  Once staple removed and seal softened do I then push the glass out from within and if so do I start at one of the corners?  Thanks!

Personally, I try to limit my projects to being able to have it back on it's wheels at the end of the day- way less overwhelming that way.  And I can drive it.  I like driving it.  Have fun.

That sounds like an excellent way to go about it.  Thanks!

For me I'll be driving my rusty daily driver to work tonight...like i stole it?
