  1. As promised, some pics from her maiden weekend! A beautiful day in SoNo! Mike was just as excited to get the car on the road as I was! Our dashboard ornament And a cool night shot... This car is tons of fun- can't wait to drive it again!
  2. TR- 58 is a great road for sure! I love cruising out around 53 and 58 with my 633. Jeff- Thanks, really appreciate it!
  3. She lives! We finally got the car legal to drive on the road and took it out this past weekend. We got a few thumbs up, and it was all good until a coolant line let go on us at Sherwood Island in CT- a quick phone call and trip to the local auto parts store got it back home. Time for all new hoses for sure. Pics to follow!
  4. My friend and I just did the rear brake lines/hoses on our project car. We used nickel copper brake line (easily bends by hand) and flared the ends ourselves with a borrowed tool- it really wasn't super difficult and none of the lines have leaked (knock on wood). If it's possible, cutting them to your own length is probably the best option, especially on the front where excess brake line doesn't have much place to go! If you go with the harder metal lines, I know that without the proper bending tools it is pretty easy to kink the lines. On a side note, if your brake lines broke, you may want to double-check the condition of your other lines/hoses for safety. Our brake lines were similarly fragile and the hoses were definitely unsafe!
  5. Hey Steve, that's no problem, we located the correct one eventually. But thank you so much for going out of your way to loan it to us! At this rate 02fest is looking like a stretch- we installed the brake lines today but one of the bleeder screws snapped off on the left rear drum, and the front left caliper seems to be stripped out at the bleed screw. We might try a helicoil on the front. Put the car away for tonight after a good deal of struggling! Hopefully tomorrow will bring some solutions.
  6. Decided to get a 25 foot roll of nickel copper brake line and am borrowing a tool from a member of the Nor'East 02ers. I'll update tomorrow with the results (hopefully)!
  7. I'm in the midst of replacing the brake lines on my 2002. I've picked up all the line and connectors, but do not have the bubble flare tool. Does anyone in the southwest Connecticut area know where I could buy/rent/borrow the correct flare tool? Trying to get the car ready for 02fest at Limerock! Unfortunately I don't have experience with brake line flaring, so any advice is very appreciated. Thanks so much!
  8. Thanks for the welcome guys. I hope to make it to the historic fest at Lime Rock, whether in the 2002 or another car I can't say for sure!
  9. These two binders came with my recent car purchase. They appear to be a complete list of parts for 2002's. Wondering what the story is behind these binders- were they at dealers, or given to buyers of cars? They seem to be very comprehensive, though I've only glanced through. Here are some pictures:
  10. Some quick pictures. The car has a lot of exterior rust from previous bodywork, looks like the P.O. had sanded down those areas and they started rusting. The shock towers are 100%, floors look good, the most major rust is the rear section of both rocker panels. I'm amazed at how well the car runs after sitting for so long- it fires right up and will idle steady all day!
  11. The car is now running! Cleaning the points did the trick. I will try to get some pictures before it gets too dark outside. I am in southwest CT, in the Norwalk area. I will definitely check out the Nor'East 02ers, thank you for the tip!
  12. Hi all- Just picked up my first 2002 as a fun project car to build with friends. It's a 1974 US-market 2002 with a 4-speed and single Solex carb. I've owned a 1984 633CSi, 1986 325es, and a 1992 525iT, so I'm not new to BMW's but am unfamiliar with 2002's. I'm eager to learn more about them with the help of this great community! Today was day 1 of the project, trying to get the car started. We changed the oil and the engine cranked over freely but had no spark and the throttle was completely stuck closed. We pulled the carb and after much cleaning managed to get the throttle operating smoothly again. Even managed to fix the no spark issue through advice found on this forum! I hope to get some pictures up of the car soon. Tomorrow we'll be bolting the carb back up and attempting to start it once more. However, the carb really seems to be hurting, with a lot of badly corroded parts. I'm hoping to find either a rebuild or replacement stock carb in the near future. In the meantime, glad to have joined this great forum and will be sure to take advantage of the knowledge here to get this car driving! -David
