  1. Within minutes of posting, a 17-year-old from Janesville, Wisconsin criticizes my asking price. Good Grief! You can't please everyone, especially teens.
  2. 1976 BMW 2002 for sale as is $7,800.00 price firm, obo, cash only, no trades, bone stock, baby Beemer, blue on blue, just like new, cute, custom, iconic econobox, low mileage, last year made, good on gas, always garaged, daily driver, survivor, next Carini barn find, never seen rain, original condition, older restoration, 1 owner, 2.0 L (only 3 wheel caps) 4 cyl motor, 10 footer (at night), few dents, several scratches, body straight, minimal rust, shiny chrome, clear coat peeling, could use paint, 100 hp, 13" aftermarket alloy wheels, Goodyear black wall all weather tires, recent tune-up, new distributor cap, rotor, coil, points, plugs, and wires, everything works, kidney shaped grill, blue and white propeller badges, antique vehicle license plates secured to metal brackets, sliding s/r, roll-up windows, worn door weatherstripping, needs new gaskets. Gotta tach, jack, full size spare, fog lights, no luggage rack, Barret Jackson wannabe, big rubber bumpers, square tail lights, stick shift, defroster, no a/c, rblt Weber carb, ss mfflr, speedo, guibo, Interstate btry, tinted windshield, wipers, broken heater, hoses, fan, belts, rear bench seat, Classic Motorsports bumper sticker, extra parts, radio delete. The "poem" was written tongue in cheek. I have owned the car for about 12 years, and I have driven it about 15,000 trouble- free miles during that time. This car underwent a very expensive restoration before I purchased it. The seats were reupholstered. They are very comfortable. The carpeting is in good condition. The door cards are in excellent, uncut condition. This car is RELIABLE. A few parts were replaced in the past year: 2 tires, clutch master cylinder, and battery. The Weber 32/36 was rebuilt last year. I will replace the brake master cylinder next week. It is leaking. I would feel confident to drive this car to California and back. The engine has just over 93,000 miles. The car is equipped with a sunroof, a 4 speed manual transmission, and fog lights. The shock towers are rust free. I have been quoted $2,000.00 to have the car painted. I will have the car painted it if it doesn't sell within the next few weeks. The price is $7,800.00, but I will negotiate with someone only after he/she takes the car out for a test drive. If you are under 18-years-old, obtain your parents' written permission before you post any comments. For those who are seriously interested, please contact me.
  3. Brad and Dave, Did someone mention cup holders? Did you check out the cup holders I designed for my 2002? They are listed for sale in the Parts for Sale section. See the link below: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,378266/highlight,/ The eBay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/300805311322?item=300805311322&viewitem=&vxp=mtr Paul
  4. I'm baaaaaaaack! I have posted six (6) images of the cup holders ... sans clown. I took the pictures this evening. They are not the best. The first two (2) images show a cup holder with a BMW travel mug. This setup is ideal for you coffee drinkers out there. Please note the bracket which holds the cup holder to the console ... by friction ... and by gravity. BMW would be proud ... Pepsi, please ... It's the real thing ... Slurpees ... The pictures have been posted. Whaddaya think? Please don't comment on my photography skills. Remember, I took the photos at night ... while wearing my sunglasses, I have lowered the price of the cup holders. The cup holders are listed for sale on ebay in an auction format. The ebay auction opens at $20.00 for one cup holder. Using the buy it now option, the price for two (2) cup holders (buy one get one free) is just $25.00 plus shipping. The link to the eBay auction appears below: http://www.ebay.com/itm/300805311322?item=300805311322&viewitem=&vxp=mtr Members of this site may purchase cup holders from me by contacting me directly. My email address is pauljd37@hotmail.com. Please hit "reply" to let me know how many cup holders you would like to buy.
  5. I am replacing the Weber 32/36 carburetor with an automatic choke in my 1976 BMW 2002. The replacement carburetor has a manual choke. I would like to install the choke cable where the dummy knob for the front fog lights resides. I may use the dummy knob as the choke cable knob to keep that "stock" look. I decided not to install the choke cable in the factory location: in the plastic steering wheel pan opposite the ignition switch. To do so, I would have to drill a hole in the steering wheel pan. I'd rather not do that. If I remove the instrument cluster - by removing the two screws for the speedometer and disconnecting the speedometer cable - will this allow me access to remove the nut holding the dummy knob to the dash? If not, what is the easiest way for me to access the dummy knob so that I remove it to install the choke cable? Thank you for your help. Paul
  6. Dennis, With regard to your console ... do you have for sale the metal stereo/speaker surround (to install an original radio) or an original speaker grill? Please let me know. I am looking for those parts. Thanks for your input re the cup holders. Your comments were appreciated. Paul
  7. Update: I'm still out of town. I plan to return to town either Thursday or Friday to post more pictures of the cup holders. I apologize for the delay.
  8. Bob, I'm relaxed. I don't know what "butt hurt" means. Frankly, I'd rather not know. Thank you for complimenting me on my initiative. All I wanted was a decent cup holder in my BMW. I would have gladly paid $25 bucks for a cup holder I liked ... and that worked well in my car ... instead of going to the trouble of modifying one to suit my needs. By the way: the "screw" to which you refer, the one that secures the plastic cup holder to the bracket, actually is a pop rivet. I believe that potential buyers of my cup holders may appreciate knowing how I made them. I'm sure that certain members would prefer to make their own using my design, possibly to "save money." I'll share with you and the other members how I made them because I believe that there are several members on this forum who would prefer to buy assembled cup holders from me ... for a fair price ... rather than to go to the trouble of making their own using my design. Here's how I did it: First, I came up with the idea for the design of the cup holders. It appears that no one else had the same idea. After that, I purchased or "found" the necessary parts and tools to make the cup holders. I "found" an electric drill in my father's garage. I liberated it. Thanks, Dad. I purchased drill bits of appropriate size from Home Depot. I purchased a hand riveter from Home Depot. I had never used one before I designed the cup holders. I purchased several boxes of rivets (from three different stores - the store clerks were of little help - very frustrating) until I found a rivet of appropriate size. Who knew that there were so many different kinds of rivets? I purchased brackets of appropriate size at Home Depot. They may be found at Walmart, as well. I purchased washers from Home Depot. I purchased plastic cup holders from Fischer Auto Parts. Walmart sells them, too. I purchased rubber grommets from a local hardware store. Home Depot doesn't carry them. Good luck finding them. I purchased tin snips from Home Depot. To make the cup holders: I cut off excess plastic from the cup holders I had purchased with the tin snips. l drilled a hole in the bottom of each plastic cup holder with the electric drill. I riveted a bracket and washers to the bottom of each cup holder with the hand riveter. I attached a rubber grommet (not seen in the photos) to "stabilize" the cup holder. The rubber grommet prevents horizontal movement of the cup holder to prevent spillage. There you go! That's how I did it. They're for sale, folks ... for $24.50 each. The link to purchase the cup holders on ebay appears below: http://www.ebay.com/itm/300800937696?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  9. Mike, what parts do you have available for the center console? You may email me at pauljd37@hotmail.com. Thank you. Paul
  10. Thank's for the kind words. I appreciate the encouragement. This is one tough crowd. They drive thirsty, and they're cheap. I guess I missed what may be Bob's sense of humor. To tell you the truth, I was a little creeped out that he would drill holes in the interior of what appears to be a very nice car to install a cheap cup holder that looks horribly out of place and would be bothersome to use. I guess he was really desperate for a place to rest put his coffee and didn't want to pay the big bucks for the BMW cup holder that was designed for his car. Below I have attached a link for, what I believe to be, one of those VW Passat cup holders to which Bob referred: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-98-01-B5-Passat-Front-Dash-Cup-Holder-Black-OEM-/270787816826?hash=item3f0c362d7a&item=270787816826&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr The cost of the VW cupholder is $35.19 plus $11.00 for shipping. I'm sure it's a bargain for someone who would like to have one. I'll pass. It doesn't appeal to me for several reasons: 1. The cup holder is an in dash design. It is my understanding that you may mount one (or more) of them (above, below, or in) in the location where the ashtray is located on the center console of a stock BMW 2002. I don't want a cup dangling from above the gearshift. I don't want to reach that far to pick up or to put down my drink. It might spill along the way. That would upset the Brits, for sure. 2. I wouldn't trust it to hold a Slurpee or a Big Gulp. It looks kinda flimsy to me. 3. It can't hold a Red Bull. Really, that's no big deal to me because ... I don't drink Red Bull. 4. I won't have room for it. (Remember, I plan to install a radio and front center speaker in the center console.) 5. My clown would look kind of silly hanging from that cup holder. Wait, that may be a good thing. 6. It's a VW part ... Ugh! Really, it just wouldn't be right to put something farfug-foreign in my "ultimate (oops!-we-forgot-to-install-the-cup holders) driving machine."
  11. Tilux, I have plans to apply for a patent when BMW reintroduces the 2002 to the US market as "the ultimate cup holding machine." From the comments made by Koblenz and by Les02, it's clear to me the car would not sell well in the UK. Apparently, the Brits would rather "stay thirsty, my friends." Koblenz and Les02 may be pleased to know that my first car was a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite. I bought it in 1982 for $250.00. I loved that car. I drove it for about 10 years ... without a cup holder. For me, that car ... my first car ... was the ultimate driving machine. My Beemer is nice; however it does not compare to my Sprite. I consider my BMW to be "the penultimate driving machine," at best. I improved it by adding the cup holders. They give me a place to put my clown ... and my Slurpee.
  12. Tilux, For the benefit of the FAQ members viewing this thread, I responded to Tilux's comments on eBay. My response follows: I appreciate your suggestion. As I had stated in the 2002FAQ listing, I am unable to take additional pictures right now. I will be happy to post the pictures of the cup holders without the clown when I am back in town: tomorrow or on Tuesday. Please be patient. Presently I am 125 miles from the car and from the cup holders that are in the car. I wanted to post the ad on eBay as soon as I could. I will post additional pictures when I am able. I understand that you desire to know how the cup holders are secured to the console. The answer is: "ancient Chinese secret." I'm kidding. Actually, the cup holders are held in place by friction. I'm not kidding. You can see from the pictures: the plastic part of each cup holder is held to a metal bracket by a rivet. To attach the cup holder to the console: (1) first, loosen the screws which secure the passenger side panel of the console to create a small crack where it meets the gear shift surround; (2) next, slide the cup holder bracket into the crack; (3) next, tighten the screws. (4) Enjoy your cup holders!
  13. Les prefers to "stay thirsty, my friends." He don't need no stinkin' cup holders.
  14. Mikepelly, I am glad that you have entered the discussion. Thank you for including a picture of your cup holders. I saw a picture of your cup holders before I designed mine. Your cup holders are very nice. I like the design. What is the price of your cup holders? I had considered purchasing a set of your cup holders before I designed my own. I have plans to install a clock, a vintage stereo, and a front speaker in my center console. After they have been installed, I would not be able to put cup holders in the empty space that now exists in my center console because there won't be one.
  15. Ingramlee, I will post pictures additional close up pictures of the cup holders (without the clown) on Monday or Tuesday when I return from my trip. Presently I am out of town. I'm happy that you agree that the price I have asked is not completely out of line. The beauty of my cup holders is that they are held firmly in place to the console without the use of fasteners that could damage the console. I am able to accelerate from a red light and power into a turn without fear of spilling my drink. When cruising, I have a very short reach for a cold one. I agree with Vinntage Joe. That's one creepy looking clown. I like him. He makes me smile.
  16. Calm down, Ingramlee, or you might blow a gasket. Everything is negotiable. Well, almost everything. What price do you think is fair for one of my cup holders: $25, $20, $15, $10, $5, free, or none of the above? For about $20, you can buy a cup holder that attaches to "anywhere' in your car by Velcro. I don't think they are worth the asking price (that's my opinion), but apparently they are selling.
  17. The price of a cup holder is not set in stone. It may be negotiable. I think $25.00 for one cup holder is fair; however, I will listen to offers. Also, I am open to trades. I'll tell you what: If you pay for the next fill-up for my Beemer, I'll give you two of my cup holders in trade. [/u][/i]
  18. Esty, The cup holders are black. They are not red. They don't have a VW logo on them. I guess you are just being funny. You wrote the comments before I figured out how to post the pictures. Now that the pictures have been posted, please give me your real evaluation. I hope you like them.
  19. Marcb, Pictures are up. Sorry for the delay. BTW: You responded within seconds of my posting the ad.
  20. I designed these cup holders for use in my 1976 BMW 2002. I am pleased with them. They work well, and they look great. I made a couple of them to sell on this site. They are designed to be installed on the center console of a BMW 2002 equipped with the long console. If you don't have a long console, whatcha waitin' fer? Go get you one ... getrdone. These cup holders will not cause any damage to your console. They are easy to install, and they are easily removed. There is no need to drill any holes in the console to install them. They can hold big and large cups, cans, and bottles. "The price for one (1) cup holder is $49.00, plus shipping. As an introductory offer: if you purchase one cup holder for $49.00, plus shipping, you will get a second cup holder for free." That was my attempt at humor, folks. Please note: after I posted the ad, I received several comments regarding the price. They are priced at $24.50 each, plus shipping. I think that's more than fair. I made them by hand from parts I bought right here in the USA. Hey, I'll tell you what ... if you don't want to lay out the cash, I'll consider a trade. Whatcha got to trade? This will be interesting: "I'll give you one slightly used sock I found in the dryer (It's missing its mate.) ... or two bruised bananas ... or three thumbtacks, your choice." If you have any questions, you may contact me at (703) 273-622 one. If you have any comments, please post them here. I look forward to reading them. http://s1140.photobucket.com/albums/n563/redtop620/cupholders%20and%20more/ In case you are wondering, the clown in the pictures I posted is my car's mascot. He likes the cup holders. The pictures show the car's stick shift in 4th gear. The cup holders allow plenty of room for you to shift gears and for your passenger to stretch his/her legs. [/img] Update: I have listed the cup holders for sale on eBay. The auction price opens at $20.00 plus shipping for a cup holder. The buy it now price for a cup holder is $25.00 plus shipping. It's a bargain, I tell you. To purchase a cup holder (or several ... the more the better): use the following link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/300805311322?item=300805311322&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
