Got'em today. Thanks again. Harold

I want to watch the answer you get.. cause they look neat!
-
Thanks for the hard earned knowledge. I'll take a pair, just send me what arrangements you need... hsarmstrong at comcast dot net.

Uh, oh, the two part numbers you warn us about, are listed for concurrent years! How can I tell which type I have on my 2002 (stock) built in September 1968? Thanks. Harold

Argh, the damage was painful to look at. Glad to hear that no person was hurt (physically), but you must feel queasy looking at your bent machine.
I am interested in the steering wheel, surrounds, L&R stalks -- essentially everything from the dashboard out. I would appreciate a feel for what you would like to get (shipping would be to SE Michigan).
Oh, I do have a '76 "roller" that has very little serious rust (but virtually no trim, interior, etc) if you wanted to move your small parts over to it. I do have the correct taillights for it (as they're not roundies obviously). Take care, and thanks for looking at my request(s)/idea. Harold

Thanks for the quick reply. What's your email/Paypal? (Mine is hsarmstrong@comcast.net). Harold

Interesting stuff. Email sent. Harold

Are the turnsignal and windshieldwasher/hi beam flasher stalks still available. If so, are they functional/do they work, and what would you want for them (shipping would be to SE Michigan, 48304). Same questions for the instrument cluster. Thanks, Harold
-
What would you want for the hubcaps (delivered to Michigan)? Are the roundels in good shape too? Thanks, Harold

Ditto on Dave's remarks. The track was a lot of fun, even though I didn't exceed 20 mph (notice I didn't say race track). Terrific group of guys and thanks too to all the sponsors as well as Chris. Too bad that my 2002 was the best one there (not!) Harold

Joe: I just heard from the owner, and apparently the vehicle sold day before yesterday. Thanks a bunch for the offer to look it over though: If you ever need any help in SE MI or NE IN please let me know! Harold
-
Thanks Pike. I'm impressed, you really get around! I'll see if I can't scare up Scott S. Happy motoring! Harold

Did the sale go through? Or is it still avialable? Thanks. Harold

This started out as a thread in the "cars" discussion, but I was hoping someone familiar with 2002s might be in the neighborhood of Londonderry NH this weekend and could look over a car for me. It was listed on craigslist as "restored", but then left sitting for a few years. It sounds like a great price .... but is it too good to be true? I have asked for some photos and will post them as soon as I receive any. Please email either myself (harold) at hsarmstrong at comcast dot net, or (luke) at armst219 at msu dot edu. You can see the start of this in the cars forum under "If I didn't already have 2 ... - Anschauer -". Thanks for looking at my plea! Harold

I know the posting has been removed, but the owner emailed me just this afternoon re taking a look at it on Saturday. I had earlier exhanged email with him when he said another person was going to buy it... looks like that fell through.

I am keen to get this vehicle, but sure would feel better if someone familiar with 2002's could look this over for me. It's located in Londonderry, NH. The deal almost seems too good to be true, thus.... If you think you can help, please contact me at hsarmstrong at comcast dot net, or my son at armst219 at msu dot edu. TIA, Harold

Hi, your Malaga looks nice. Do you believe the car is capable of being driven back to SE Michigan (where I live) pretty much as is, or should it be trailered? Thanks for looking at my question. Harold

I had the same issue of the slave cylinder frozen in the mounting flange. I soaked mine with the penetrating oil (use the groove to get some of the fluid in between the parts). Contrary to intuition, the cylinder really does have to come out pushing toward the front of the vehicle. I use a big hammmer and chisel -- which I DO NOT recommend! I am lucky I didn't break the flange, and totally destroyed the slave cylinder. Get a bigger set of channel locks or pipe wrench, or use the heat method as suggested by c.d.iesel. His diagram is accurate as to where the interfence occurs. Good luck, and persevere.

Mike & c.d.eisel: You guys should be writing the manual on these things!
-
Those clips can be a bear when rusted in place. You should buy a set of pliers made specifically for those eye clip retainers... for both internal and external clips. A set is about $5 from Harbor Freight. It's pretty straight forward removing and assembling these kinds of clips with the specialty pliers. Re the rusty one, apply your favorite penetrating oil (WD-40, Kroil?) every day for a couple days before you want to disassemble. I found that works for about 90% of the time for me. If not, then a chisel with a big enough hammer to unseat the ring. Don't scar the slave cylinder though, cause you need to slide it out of the housing! Maybe some of the longer-term FAQ veterans can chime in on this too.

Hi c.d.iesel: I got it. I'll use my dwell tach. I figured the vacuum advance should be disconnected, but didn't have a clue as to what else what else. Thanks muchly. Now, if I could just find my old dwell tach thingy.......
-
Dang. After finding out that the company doesn't make an electronic points replacement device, I've had to fall-back to replacing the points (I have the vacuum actuated two-piece point distributor). When I looked at the manual I bought, the engine electrical section is missing. I set the points at 0.030"... the old match thickness, and it will start. Since I want to drive it on a 100 mile trip, I'd feel better if I knew (and reset to) the correct gap. TIA, Harold (again). (monster mike dropped some parts off, but I neglected to ask him. I was distracted by his 02 with a fabulous body, paint, interior, etc.)

Hey, thanks for the sage advice. I am only "6 months old" in '02 model years, ha, ha. I should probably get to it. Thanks again guys. Harold

Having never been to the V@V, but hearing so much about it, I'm trying to figure out how I can juggle my schedule so I can attend. I have a question for the veterans of the event (and yeah, it's a stupid one for them), but are many decent drivers (2002 of course) available for sale at the meet? I'm looking to buy one, and am trying to figure out it I'm better off waiting until then rather than go the eBay route. Of course, I am also following the sales forum here. Oh, I'm looking for value, not pure authenticity, and in ready condition to drive back to SE MI. TIV, guys. Harold -- a wannabe smart guy.
Call this guy for parts......
