Another place to check is(are?) the tubes that go up to the handbrake. A weird thing happened to me. During the winter when it was too cold o do anything else in the garage I tried to install my parking brake cables and they were blocked! Trying everything from fishtape to a small steel rod to get them through I finally realized that they were plugged up with ice. Heating up the tubes with my heat gun I was able to get a small home made fishtape through each tube.
I knew I needed to get that moisture out so with a mix of brake clean, PB Blaster, shop towel strips and compressed air I was able to clean a lot of gunk out of those tubes. Good place to clean if you want to make those cables slide unobstructed.

Best 3-5 years of my life. Just couldn't leave it behind.

Original to the car. I had a guy turn them down to minimum[emoji6]. I have some on order[emoji2]

Thanks Jim! I am still pecking away at mechanical stuff and trying not to get sidetracked but letting my mind wander. Helps alot

I hate to hijack your thread but I am wondering what is under those pillars? Foam or some other kind of backing? I am trying to put together a car that I have never seen together so I am at somewhat of a disadvantage.
Thanks(if you can help), Larry

errrrr! This thread makes me feel so slow and uninformed! Actually I love to watch the progress. Nice!

Hmmm, that explains what I say about my car on those not so good days.

Could you send me one of your handbrake kits please? I will follow the palpal instructions.

So, are you looking for an objective opinion or some support to build a case to buying a car? You do know the house to which you are playing I am sure.

So Andrew of course if someone sources rebuilds from you, IE checks and makes sure that the front and back match??

If that squeal comes from your belt check your battery. Nothing like giving your alt a workout it does not really need if it is trying to charge a bad battery. Lesson learned from my vanagon.

Sorry for your loss.

Ah, capitalism. What the market will bear. That kind of thing.

Though I have no experience in AC in a 2002 my parts car does have all the parts to install the Frigiking system. That of course is not my focus and who knows, I might never get to that point in my car. That said, I have a Vanagon/Westy that are notorious for inferior AC systems. In trying to get some kind of cool going inside of that I used

It maybe just my imagination but it did seem to be the coldest that system ever functioned. Of course I had installed a new compressor, receiver/dryer and cleaned the system. Just a little FYI

Damaged bearings? If so a rebuild with an IE kit is in order. No bearings in that kit, just the seals needed to get rid of that nasty grease stain.

Sub frame removed media blasted, reenforced and painted. No snorkel. I believe the the front end to be original to the car..

That is the rub Minty. these are brand new bearings. I got them sometime in the last year. I do not remember taking them out of a box, so no identifying marks. seems I bought them from some place that had tii in his name, Roger that?
So I guess I will just continue my building of the struts (proper washer order) and see what happens. Thanks for the responses.

I have bought new ones and they are what I plan to install. It just seems there are good new ones and bad new ones.

In rebuilding my front end and reading all the posts about it I have come find out that there is a range from "not worth putting on your car" to "this is what you need". I have some bearings, how do I tell what is and what is not ok? any visual clues? Sorry to offend if this has been covered before and I should be able to find what I am looking for with search.

Wow! Jake, you are moving at a blistering pace on two cars. I can't keep up the pace on my one car. Great job.
