You'll be there the weekend between events at Sebring Int'l Raceway, 79 miles south of Orlando:

    That's a real bummer isn't it?  ?

    Anders,

Go to the Cape and check out space history, maybe see a launch..  Hit an astronaut bar in Cocoa. ;)

    Tom

I was actually considering this.  I've got two daughters so have done various Disney's too many times for me to bother counting.  But I've thus far never visited the Space Center...

If you are visiting Disney, Disney Springs has a fleet of Amphicars you can ride. Sebring is to the south, Daytona to the northeast. If you are willing to make a trip of things, the Revs Institute is in Sarasota. But I second Visionaut - head out to Kennedy Space Center, spend a day at Canaveral National Seashore, and see some real Florida.

Justin, that sounds like a fab suggestion!  I've of course heard of Revs, but don't really know much about it and didn't even know where they were at.  Looking at their website, this could easily make for a great day out...  ?

Obviously not 02 related, but the Don Garlits museum of drag racing is 65 miles away from Orlando:

Tim, that's certainly an option too.  Us Europeans generally know waaaay too little about drag racing.  Would be interesting and perhaps even make for a decent article for ViaRETRO...  Thx!

  2. Oh come on guys...  All you Baur owners, for the sake of my crumbling self esteem, please tell me that you at least sometimes envy us our cool swivelling quarterlight windows...  ?

If you use your quarter windows, I'm sure you've noticed by now that opening the passenger side quarter window gives the driver's neck a nice breeze--and vice versa.

Yup Mike - that works quite nicely too.  But the passenger quarterligt is just a little more awkward to reach while at 9/10ths along a fabulously twisty backroad...  ?

  3. Hey there,

I'll be in Orlando from late afternoon on Thursday the 23rd May to early afternoon Sunday the 26th May.
Just wondering if anyone here might have some suggestions for classic car related stuff to do during that time??
Anything 02 would obviously be amazing, but I doubt I'l be that lucky.  But seeing as it's over the weekend, might there be any Cars and Coffee meets or similar?\

If not, how about a decent car museum or something like that?  All suggestions are welcome...  ?

  4. Hey Gents,

As I'm sure anyone who has ever spent a moment on ViaRETRO will know, we're quite partial towards 02's and classic BMW's in general.  I've been into 02's for more than a quarter of a century now, but also two of our guest contributors own, drive and enjoy 02-ownership.  Still, we try to keep the content on ViaRETRO as varied as possible.  Today however, Tony Wawryk keeps us entertained as he sums up his time - almost five years - with die Zitrone, a late Golf yellow BMW 2002tiiLux.  We're sure most of you will relate and have similar tales to tell of your own 02-ownership...  ?

  5. Hi NK-lovers,

So I must confess that there's sadly no NK in my garage currently.  I sorely miss my '71 Atlantik blau 2000, and often dream of what could have been had I only seen through the very full resto of my '65 Granada rot 1800ti.  Oh well... one day there shall live another NK with my 02's...
In the meantime, one can always dream...  perhaps about the oddball estate versions which were created by various coachbuilders on the Neue Klasse.
Check out the story over on ViaRETRO: https://viaretro.com/2019/02/pre-touring-bavarian-estates/

  6. One of our ViaRETRO contributors drives an 02 as well - or rather, he rallies it.  Quite committed too...  ?

However, he's had a bit of a mishap.  Sadly, his well-sorted 02 now needs ironing before it can return to its smile-inducing, sideways-travelling norm.
Please, let's all give Dave a bit psychological support for his upcoming rebuild...  ?

  7. Thx Gents,

Glad you enjoyed the article.  ?  Now it's your turn - get out there and make the most of those autumn colours...

Things are slowly proceeding with my Green Devil - thx for asking...  ?
I've come as far as now having it fully disassembled with drivetrain and everything removed.  Only the two subframes are still attached to the body so I can move it about easier.  Next up is repairing that left front corner, then a few minor rust repairs to make her nicer, fresh paint, and then I get to put it all back together again...

OK, Anders, Chris alone has far more ‘02’s than I pictured in all of Las Vegas! Great write-up!

I’m glad we could meet up when you passed through NYC!

    Best regards,

    Steve

Steve, the pleasure with thoroughly on my side!  ?

It was great to meet you in person.  The world wide web is a great way of communicating with likeminded enthusiasts, but nothing beats a face-to-face chat over a cup of coffee.  Go ahead, call me old-fashioned...  ?

I sense we could have talked for severals hours more.  Hopefully we will get a chance to do it all again some time soon...
