I will soon have a 76 anthrazit car up for sale. It has a sunroof, but is essentially a very straight and very low rust car. Very very stock and ready for you to build.
I would keep this car as a driver but I'm about to get my 69 1600 back and I prefer the earlier cars. I can't have two in my new house with a single car garage.
I will ask for about $1750 for the car. I can send pictures after I've finished moving in a couple of weeks. I'm located in Salem, OR.

I have a 69 chamonix 1600 just about ready to be returned to me. After test driving the car, I can report that I am SO excited to own it.
I wanted to thank a couple of folks and highly recommend doing business with them.
1) Gary Espeland @ Boyd Motor Werks in Portland, OR who installed a 5-speed and replaced a tired 1600 engine with a 02 motor. He's also done a million other things to make this car ready to go.
2) Robert Johnson of Wildomar, CA who sold me a rebuilt engine that was exactly as described. He was very careful to make sure I knew exactly what I was buying. I am extremely happy with the transaction.
He sold me an m10 with 9.5 cr pistons, 1982 casting e12 head port matched and polished, radius grind valve seats and shrick 292 cam shaft, surfaced head and honed cylinders. Also came with a ported and polished intake manifold, weber 38/38 and tii exhaust manifold.
3) Ronald Aractingi of Autosolutions.net who both gave me advise about the engine and also sold me a short throw shift kit. Folks, this feel so good in the car and really improves how the car drives.
After about 10 years in the 02 game, I finally once again have a car I really can love and drive and not worry too much about rusting away or falling apart.. I recently purchased a home and am in the process of moving in as I type. I finally have a garage I can put my car into and worry a lot less about rust. I'm about as happy as one can get and I wanted to share.
Best wishes to all the other 02'ers out there. I know it is very tough times and I really hope things turn out well for anyone/everyone hurting. I'll be seeing many of you at various festivals as I finally have a car I am happy to include.
I'll also be liquidating a LOT of my part stash since I'm committed to only keeping a couple of crucial spares for really hard to get parts. If you are in a pinch and really need something, I'll try to work with you. Going to take me awhile to move my mountain of parts over to the new house though. Whew.....

I've had both sunroof cars and non-sunroof cars. I recently sold an early 70 sunroof car that I had thought, was the car of my dreams. I had picked up a 69 1600 non-sunroof car and decided to let one of my roundies go.
I now have the 69 1600 (non) and a 76 sunroof car. Once I get my 69 back from the mechanic, I'll be selling off the 76. My garage only has room for one.
But onto my point, find a car that well.....speaks to you. That is, you look at it....perhaps drive it and realize this IS the one. Of course, let things like lack of rust and sorted mechanicals drive the decision. But that ONE car might be either with sunroof or sans sunroof.
In my case, I took a look at this chamonix 69 and realized, it has little rust, a great interior and is going to be the one.
It's particularly the one for me now given the 5-speed conversion and removing the tired 1600 and replacing it with a built-up engine consisting of: 9.5 cr pistons, 1982 casting e12 head port matched and polished, radius grind valve seats and shrick 292 cam shaft, surfaced head and honed cylinders. Also came with a ported and polished intake manifold, weber 38/38 and tii exhaust manifold. Last step....perhaps next summer....will be to megasquirt and install a Limited Slip Diff.
This car IS the one for me and it happened to come without a sunroof. My first 02 was a 69 and hopefully, this one will be my last. This one goes like stink.
Hopefully your heart will tell you.
Best wishes regarding your search. Hope you end up as satisfied as I am.

I believe that's a Webasto sunroof.
After-market and I've run into a few 02's over the years with them.

Sorry, way, Way, WAY "out of stock".
I was recently outbid on an uncut NOS one on Ebay. They do come up every great once in awhile. Perhaps more prevalent on German Ebay, Ebay.de
Be prepared however if/when you do come across one that there are a bunch of us hunting for one. So, be quick.

Going down to LA to buy an 02 engine. However, I'll be back on Monday. If the other fellow doesn't want it, since shipping will be a bit of a downer.....I'd love to have at it.
I can be reached off-FAQ through Mon.

Hey Ken,
Consider me interested in the limited slip as well. I could drive your old 76 anthrazit over to pick it up.
Thanks,
Jerry

Anyone have any spare later style (72-up ?) single pin style shifter parts? I only have the earlier fork style shifter parts.
I'm in the middle of a 5-speed conversion and my mechanic is hoping I get ahold of the later style parts. So, I'm looking to buy.
I've looked at realoem and don't really see a difference in set-ups between roundie and square. But maybe so. Just trying to keep my project car moving along.
Please let me know: jwcurryATyahooDOTcom

Interesting the supply for E21 parts, excluding engine parts might go way up due to the just extended, "cash for clunkers" program.
I imagine some folks are taking those in. Before scrapping the car, I was reading the engines are purposely seized.

Where did you live in No. Ind?
I grew up in Highland. I'm also a very big White Sox fan and don't even acknowledge the other (alleged) major league team in Chicago. Heh....

I might also be interested. Utah isn't all that far from Oregon.
Could you drop me a line: jwcurryATyahooDOTcom or via the FAQ board?

Tom Watson's run at the British Open was inspirational. Imagine that....59 years old and comes within 1 putt of winning. Then to top it off, he leads all 4 days. Magical....simply amazing.

Basically, I view my 02 as a motorcycle with a little bit more steel. I always look around and try to be aware as well. However, at an intersection when someone is coming up behind you and isn't paying attention......there's not much you can do.
It's only going to get worse with the marriage of "always on" technology in the guise of smartphones. Now I've got Internet Radio, video, GPS, cell phone, SMS, Internet access, news alerts, banking, etc.....all in the palm of my hand WHILE driving. Gee, swell.
I eventually feel we should get to a point that when the car is running, electronic devices cannot operate. Turn the ignition off and they work. People used to stop their cars to picnic, chat, consult a map, etc.....
I'd like to see that happen again.
Course where does this stop. Should radios be allowed in cars?

I may very well be interested in this if he is not.
Where are you located? I'm in Salem, OR but might travel for the right engine. I have a 1600 with many miles on her and I have a feeling I'm going to need a new engine or rebuild soon.
Thanks,
Jerry

I have a question for any 1600/1602 owners out there.
Just picked up a pretty stock 1969 1600 with the long-neck diff, etc...
I'm thinking through my carb options. I'm a pretty big fan actually of the stock 1 bbl Solex. There's been some threads on the FAQ board with many of us expressing our appreciation for the original equipment. Works, works well and not bad acceleration.
However, while I think about the Solex I'm also pondering a 32/36 Weber.
I suppose my question is: would the Weber carbs sort of over dominate, supply too much fuel, shorten the lifespan, not work well etc... with the smaller engine?
Just tapping into the collective at this point in time....
Many thanks in advance,
Jerry

Hello all,
In preparation of the new-to-me 1969 1600, I am hoping to obtain an uncut bendy key with the plastic handle. I'd even be really interested in a bendy key, ignition cylinder combo.
Now, I know the chances of me obtaining one of these is pretty close to me finding a mating pair of passenger pigeons, dodo's, ivory billed woodpackers or Carolina parakeets.
Maybe even along the lines of finding a unicorn. However, let me know if you have one or know of a source, etc...
I think there was a post on the FAQ awhile back about there being less than a half-dozen left via Mobile Traditions. Course I can't find the post.
Wait, here it is: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,309819/highlight,key/
Thanks in advance,

Needs to be clean working and/or freshly rebuilt. Just the plain vanilla 1 bbl Solex which I'm amazed how wll they work.
I'd like to keep my new 69 1600 as close to stock as possible.
Thanks in advance......

More info and pics @ http://bmw.velvetpixel.com/
She's a 1969 in chamonix. VIN #1565721
It has some mid-waist trim that is only stuck on and easily removed.
I've owned nearly 10 02's but never, a 1600. By the way, I'm looking for the rear numerical badge. If you have one for this model....please let me know.
My very first 02 was a 1969 and now this one.
Also, I've never had a car with a long necked diff which as I understand has gearing that gets one pretty quickly off the line.
Now I've got an early 70 sunroof project car to sell ($750) and a 76 sunroof car in anthrazit to sell ($1000).
Looking forward to getting this one on the road.
