  1. Under the heading "no good deed goes unpunished", this is what I did to our tii:

I was backing up a hill to help jump start another newer BMW owned by my son-in-law. I was not exactly watching what I was doing, and I had not noticed he had moved his Ford Econoline van from where he parks it normally. Did you know that the steel bumper on a Ford Econoline van sits height wise in-between the knee trim and belt trim on a 2002? I managed to pretty much wipe out the entire right side of our tii by backing into said steel bumper. It was not a good day.

But there is a happy ending, sort of. When we bought the tii back in 1996, it was in need of repair. The outside was 3 or 4 different shades of Colorado, the engine leaked oil everywhere etc. My son Greg was rear ended on his way to high school, and we decided at that time to disassemble the car and have it completely repainted. Unknown to me at the time, Dupont Colorado and Galsurit Colorado are two different shades of the same color. In fact when parked next to Blunt's car at the time, mine looked like Inka. Fast forward to today, and the inflated values of tii's, my longer term goal was to disassemble the car once again, strip it, and have it painted in Glasurit single stage Colorado. If tii's  weren't so damn expensive I wouldn't do it, but the car deserves to be correctly painted etc. Unfortunately, I am recovering from shoulder surgery and cannot work on a car yet. I also have a '88 e28 535is that I am re-assembling that will be my DD, and needs attention before the tii. So no 2002 to drive until probably summer 2024. dang.

This pic doesn't show just how badly I screwed up. Tears were shed.

  2. Welcome to the madness, and the joy of 2002's. Your other cars are ones I admire and have never owned.

Don't count on the miles being correct as some others will probably talk to as well. And in fact it doesn't matter anyways unless your car is a unicorn form the original owner and he/she has documentation to prove the mileage.

Love the color and the fact it's original. Obviously a well cared for car.

  3. My 2002 was my daily for a long time in the late 70’s to the mid 80’s.

Family reasons meant eventually needing bigger cars, e28’s, Ford Expeditions, an X3 and lately newer Audi’s.

After selling my A5, my daily has been our tii. And I’m building out an e28 535is that will become my daily, but that project is on hold due to shoulder surgery.

It is surprising how small a 2002 is, and frankly how small an e28 is. And a 2002 is basically a sheet metal box. Little in the way of protection if an idiot hits me.

i don’t think I could go back to the tii as a daily. I love driving the car, but I feel like I’m a moving target.

  4. I'd send it back for a full refund

My experience with IE is they have crappy Chinese manufacturers that don't know their way around a car, or welder.

I fought fitting a full IE stainless exhaust system for my son's 2002 and I could never get it to fit. The downpipe was too short, the center resonator always hit the tranny tunnel wall, etc. Very frustrating and I wish I had junked the whole thing and boxed it back to them. My impression is its a way to generate $ for racing.

I'm looking for a header for my M30, they and Supersprint are about the only ones available, and I'm going to wind up spending way more for a quality product that fits.

don't think the stock market has much bearing on the selling price at all.  A lot more at play in this market than the fluctuations of Wall St.....IMHO

    Respectively disagree.

A tanking market can lead to all kinds of issues in the economy. Scared people don’t act rationally.  Over priced collectibles like cars generally are @ sign things are getting out of hand.

  6. In 1978, my wife to be and I were skiing in Lake Tahoe. My mom and dad had driven to Kirkwood Meadows in their RV and we were supposed to meet up with them.

Now I hate, and I mean hate putting chains on tires. It was snowing like mad when we left Tahoe on the way to Kirkwood. At the time I owned a Chamonix 1970 2002, skinny tires, single barrel carb, an awesome car. We wound up virtually plowing the road for a good part of the way to Kirkwood. The snow started off about 6" deep in Tahoe and eventually about 12" deep in the parking lot at Kirkwood. The road to Kirkwood has a good enough climb that it was do not stop territory, I'd never get going again without chains.

The car never skipped a beat the entire way. I miss that car.....

All factory LSD for 02 had no preload.

my diff was sold to me over ebay years ago by a group that races 2002's

they essentially created an LSD inside a stock 2002 diff case so there are no external markings to indicate an LSD

  9. not sure how to post this but I'm looking for a 535i or 535is

mechanicals aren't important as I'll be building out whatever i find into a DD and will refresh all the bits and pieces

Manual tranny. red with tan interior is my preference with sport seats

    Thanks

and please let me know if i need to tow this to another area
