  1. This is one of many posts that were made about us, all of them were like this but this one made me laugh

    http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141444&page=3

That was a pretty funny thread..

There were some really nice cars there, M3s that would put to shame some exotics, but I have to say some of the nicest cars were those old classics, like the 2.8 and 3.0 CSLs or or turbo 2002's. That blue Alpina 2002tii was sweet too! I think those classics stand in stark contrast to that Dubmobile.

They were referring to Cris's car in that thread, which is not an Alpina, but they were impressed nonetheless.

  2. Steve- thanks for being a great '02 host for the event. I wish I could've gone on the drive but I had to go to dinner with my wife and son. We went to The Palace for Cajun food. It was absolutly awesome. You're lucky to be so close to that restaurant. I'd go once a month!

    Cris

Yeah, you did the right thing, the Palace is good, everyone likes to go there. We like a restaurant 2 doors from the Palace, called Square One. So new, they don't even have a name on the place yet. Glad you enjoyed our town, we will do it again.

  3. I love the wide angle shot, and I know you posted a higher resolution version of it, but is there anything higher?

yes, but it is higher than 500 kb, and we cannot attach anything larger. If you like, I can E-mail you one that is a little over 500 kb. E-mail me through the board and I will reply.

  4. You can see which of the 1700+ cars attracted the attention of the average citizen or news photographer. Ironically I am in both of them. Total coincidence. "Where's InkaSteve"

Here is the article...I will attach the photos from the Santa Barbara Newspress:

    Bavaria's best at Bimmerfest

It is smooth, yet powerful, and turns heads on the road. That luxury symbol of status, the BMW, or "The Ultimate Driving Machine," as it is marketed, attracted several thousand people to Earl Warren Showgrounds on Saturday for the ultimate in BMW (Bavarian Motor Works) obsession: Bimmerfest 2006.

Nearly 1,000 BMWs were on display at the 7th annual festival. Dozens of vendors participated.

The all-day event features the largest collection of BMWs at one site in the country. It attracts people who already own the German cars, are looking to purchase one, or just want to ogle the vehicles.

At Saturday's event, the thousands of attendees got an up-close look at the cars -- inside and out.

  5. is almost impossible, and I don't have the patience to weed through the drivel that most of the posts are. Hell, they can't even take decent pics, leaving you to show the way with some quality. Even their ticket thread is as lame as their banter. Vroomer had to instruct the babies, when they started insulting Batmobiles (as apparently some "art" BMW was Batmobiled as in Bruce Wayne), as to the heritage of their "Auntie M" heaps.

I will try to pick out some "nuggets" for you and post them later. We were very well received.

  6. Thanks for the pics! It looks like an amazing event and I look forward to seeing more...

I love the stripey M2... who's is that? Great turn out! '02's represent!

    Todd

Both the M2 and the Alpina Touring belong to Jan Echeverri (pichos1), who won 3rd place in the Classic Division of the "Battle of the Bimmers" with the Alpina Touring tii.

Chris Padagas (cj) won 1st place. '02s almost swept the division.

  7. between each car in a caravan so that others may pass each car safely. That is in the CVC. If someone going past the caravan wants to get between two cars so they can exit you have to let them do so.

It is interesting to observe the attitudes of the non-caravan cars on the road. Some of them get real "pissy" and they are the ones who do not leave any room to get in.

  8. Dang Steve! Time to replace that old garage door.

I know it has to be an even older vintage than your car.

The last straw for me was when one side of the spring mechanism broke and the door came crashing down right after I had pulled in. My wife got the hardwood floors and crown molding, but I got a new, insulated sectional door and opener.

Yeah, it has had its "ups and downs". (pretty bad, huh?)

I still have the dent in my trunk from where the spring broke many years ago. That was before they put those retainers inside the springs. My wife is pushing for new garage doors, as well as floors and cabinets. Got a third space to the left of that. But you know how that is......Storage

  9. On the way down from Santa Maria with the NorCal caravan, we have to pass through a well-known Radar trap area on the 101 near Los Alamos. You come over this rise, and there he is,the CHP, sitting under the trees with his rear facing radar. Only this time as over a hundred BMW's drive by, he is giving a ticket to some workman in his Pick-up truck. Unusual sight, it is usually the other way around.

    Drive Safe, See ya tomorrow

  10. driving out of town, 40 miles South to hook up with our caravan and driving back up to Santa Barbara.

Last year, he was our connection to Santa Barbara. Our caravan met up with him and he led us to the Fest where we had a spot reserved for the 2002s. Steve is a true 02er in my book.

    See you Saturday.

c'mon guys, you're making me blush.

Just drove up to Santa Maria (60 mi) to meet the Fri NorCal Caravan

    That was fun.

    See ya tomorrow morning.

  11. If all is good, I'm willing to take a chance driving to SB. I'll definitely want to join the caravan in Camarillo, sure would feel better with other '02ers in case I have difficulties. Again, the car has been on blocks for 28 years, so I really don't know what to expect, but it sure starts nice and purrs really sweet!

Villenuevas_BMW: please contact me, I sure would like to caravan with you from Sierra Madre to Camarillo!

That is great news, John. I am coming down to Camarillo from Santa Barbara 6am Sat. to drive back up with all you '02s. Gee, Golf & Inka, that should wake them up.

Here is Pierre's info on the Classic Caravan from Camarillo::"2002s, 1600, Neu Klasse, Bavarias, Coupes, and early E12s and anyone else who wants to join.

We have been promised a dedicated spot for pre-76 vehicles.

The caravan will leave Camarillo at 7:00 AM.

Camarillo, is off the 101, about 10 minutes West of Thousand Oaks.

Take the Las Posas Exit, take a right at the exit, then take a left at the first light then into the McDonald's parking lot. We will leave at 7:00, drive at a sane and legal speed, get there early, and avoid the large bling bling crowd."

e-mail pierre and let him know you are coming so we can watch for you.
