Yeah, going up early Saturday this year. Leaving super early out of Paso Robles.
We will try to catch up with you before you get there... trying to get to Palo Alto by 9:30am.
Maybe Gordon will join us on the way back. Of course, we will have to stop at Dubois' first.

It would be fun to hook up with other '02s and go up together. I am planning on going up early Sat AM from SB. Unless someone has a better plan. Anyone in SoCal want to get as far as SB Fri nite, let me know. Have a few extra beds. 1st come, 1st serve. then there is the floor. Going part way up Fri nite is another option.

a couple of '02s in motion for Jan...
-
Got this one as my desktop wallpaper from Bimmerfest '06
I have always liked the "flying" turbo pics.
-
hope you all got home in one piece. Can't wait for more pics. Did Vroomer make it??
-
Are you guys sure it was the 2002 owner who died?
I agree, the damage to the 02 doesn't look like it would have caused a fataility. The E36 looks much worse, especially in the front.
It appears that the '02 got "T-boned" further up the street and dragged to its final resting place. I believe the driver died from trauma from the side impact not the fire. The E36 just burned up without anyone in it. Very sad for everyone involved.

I hear occasional loud squeals from the passenger seat area when the speedo starts wrapping all the way around. Does that help?
;-D
Cheers,
Ray
I did too, but she won't ride with me anymore...

Vroomer,
And you didn't ask me to go along to help navigate, I'm bummed.
See you in Palo Alto for Bay area 02 Swap & Show next month. I'm flying on the redeye the night before from Honolulu, be in the bay area early morning the day of the fest. I may be a little tired but I'll be there in my tii this year.
G-Man
You driving up to the Swap & Show on Saturday morning (5/20)? I am going up. Just trying to figure out when. Would like to travel with other '02s if possible.

very sad, thanks for the link. Looks like an E36 was in the mix of burned cars.
Condolences to the family of driver killed...

Go to this link: http://www.francisscott.com/~bmw2002/year_2002/ and download "BMW Screensaver 2002.exe". unless you have a Mac. Use the "sit" file for that. It is a Screensaver representation of the Ad BMW put out using tons of '02s in 2002. I have it on my computer.
Enjoy.

I'll bring a decent desert wine for the Mrs, Mike.
I suppose a "desert" wine is very dry......the '98 Death Valley was a good one.
....Sorry, I crack myself up....working alone you know..See ya there..
I'm sure Steve J has some response to this...........
I'm waiting

Wouldn't miss it...Might bring my son up this year. He said he would come up to SB on the train from San Diego Friday nite, then ride w/me up to Palo Alto early Sat AM.
-
great pictures, wish I could have been there. any names to go with any of the cars? Did you see Mike?
-
This car has a nice "patina"
-
I had a very long talk with the original owner of my car, but the conversation ended when my wife told me to stop talking to myself.......I know the history of every dent and ding in the car, many of them my own fault. Served me well ever since I drove it off the showroom floor. The dealer is gone, but we just keep on tickin'.

Sombody needs to bring a ladder this time so we can get a true "group shot".
Or howzabout we just make a human pyramid?
(Visions of the evening news, several ambulances are buzzing about, EMTs are tending to several show-goers holding ankles and knees and writhing in agony. News reporter talking about the human tragedy, camera view is shakey as they try to take in as much as possible and keep out of the way of the injured. Possible amatuer video showing the elation of sucess, and then the instace of the collapse and the ensueing carnage.)
OK, maybe NOT a human pyramid.
I took a series of pics standing on the tables they used for registration. At the time I wasn't thinking about pasting them together, so I wasn't using the panorama feature on the camera. You might see some people twice in the photo, everyone was moving around while I was taking pictures. Here I was standing up on a table yelling "Don't move, say Cheese now" and no one was listening. I was crushed..
Sorta messy paste together, but it does pretty much encompass the whole group.
Maybe if we just stack all your spare tires on top of your car, and stand on top of them it might work. Of course we will have to paste your car back in the picture when we are done.

It should be great,

These threads sure move fast...11 pages back http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,271767/ someone posted some scans from the article. I have the issue. Pretty interesting.

Now,
The real story could be the one where the wife says, "I want that car gone. Go sell it!"
Husband says "I had it up for sale, but nobody wanted it. I guess we are just stuck with it."
I will bet that's closer to the truth than we think. You don't keep a car 31 years because you hate it. Probably thought about moving it on for whatever reason, garage space, wife, new wife, moving, etc. Figured if someone was willing to spend at least 20K he could part with it, since he never quite got around to finishing it like he dreamed. No $20K, then he will keep dreaming like a lot of us do. Someday, we will get around to it.

I had no intention of buying it. Just thought it was good topic for entertainment. You guys didn't let me down.
Your opinions reflect those of all of us that were there. It looks better in the pictures that it did in person. The guys "Bid Box" was not exactly overflowing with offers when he left. I never saw him. It just mysteriously appeared and disappeared. I think CJ saw who the owner was.
I am surprised the owner didn't pick up some strange disease or spider bites driving it over. If the price was right it would be an interesting project car. But, obviously, the price wasn't right. Wasn't even close.
Maybe he was just messing with us. Could be.....
At least we woke up F1reverb, now tell us what you REALLY think, Jay.
-
This Cabrio was parked at the BFest with a Suggested Minimum Bid.
Do you think he is in the ballpark or Way out of the ballpark in his expectations?
-
OK,
I'm gonna guess there needed to be some sort of permit for a "parade" that big. I swear I see a big inflatable animal near the back of that parade.
That wasn't a parade, it was the SoCal caravan trying to get into the Showgrounds. We got there early, and they let us in before the gates opened.
It helps when you have the event organizers cell phone #..
Any SoCal or Central Calif. '02s going to Palo Alto???

I think it is about 5 hrs if we keep relatively legal and don't diddle around at gas stops. Have to check with the guys that came down to bimmerfest from bay area. Google says 5 1/2 hrs. but it also says 2 1/2 hrs to Paso Robles and I know that takes a little under 2 hrs from here. Driving sanely...
