A little exciting for me, never been here.
Just ignore "dan_inka74"....we are glad you are visiting the "left coast". You need to make a side trip up to see us in Santa Barbara, 90 minutes from El Segundo (if there is little traffic). Enjoy your stay.

Welcome back to the land of the '02s.
-
-
Go up the 101, it is a nicer drive and many '02ers sprinkled along the way. I am in SB, Gordon in Santa Maria, Rob Torres shop in SLO, Vroomer in Paso Robles, Dubois in Hollister, and the rest of those guys in San Jose and north. E-mail for phone numbers, pack tools and enjoy the trip. Made the trip from SB to Palo Alto the last couple of years, as well as a few trips up to SLO. No problems, even with the car running lousy. The big hill outside San Luis Obispo the only time the car gets stressed, otherwise you can travel at your own pace.

Yeah, but it keeps moving down ("Wow People")
just E-mail Steve K and he will nuke it...

Paul, we sure appreciate your patient responses to our uncontrollable drooling. Can't wait to see it in person....very inspiring, gonna go out and kick my 30 year old daily driver now, and start saving my pennies.

Can we have a link to this event for info? I always saw coverage on this event and would really like to attend. A caravan would be nice from SoCal on the 101 going through Santa Barbara, Steve I know you have my back!
thinking about it....check the link http://www.montereyhistoric.com/

Thanks for the kind works. I will be driving it IN Monterey, however, like the coupe, this will be its one trailer queen ride. The car cover comes off at precisely 9 a.m., August 18th on the green at Concours Italiano-BMW Corral. If you miss it at Concourso, I am elated to tell you that it has been invited to join the Corral at the track on Saturday. Thanks.
I think we need to gather a '02 fan club for at least one of those..What do you think, California '02s?? Another great reason to gather together...like we really need one.
-
absolutely beautiful, down to the last detail....
Are you driving it to Monterey? or trailer? Maybe you need a convoy of California '02s to escort you up there. Just to keep the Papparazzi away.

Waaaay off topic! I've been searching for an idea for my third tattoo for over a year now and since my favorite number is 3, I really wanted my third one to be extra special. For my third one, I wanted it to be something out of this list:
1) Biscuit's paw print
2) An abstract skeleton (no, not skulls, cross bones and the American flag, yeesh)
3) Something to do with Karl
I got some really good inspiration tonight from someone on the forum. What if I got the "2002" badge done on my lower back, right hand side? I'm considering it, but again, it could be filed under the "02er Ethics". Complete my poll and I'll work with the results. If there are any other suggestions that are in relation to Karl, let me know!
YOU MADMAN!!! ;-p i voted go for it but only because i think it would be funny. i think on your backside, id try to figure out something symmetrical. with a pic of your (or someones') back, and photoshop, you could get a preview.... i personally dont like tats much. id rather have a t-shirt made. (you can change a t-shirt.)
"2002" badge tat on right side, "automatic" script tat on left side. Nice and symmetrical-ish.
bahh! how about TURBO>???? ;-)
!OBRUT
:-D
That would come up in the mirror well :-P
Heck, just put a "2" under each arm and go topless....

and particpated in many of our Hwy 33 cruises. Pierre knows the owner well. I wonder when he moved to Santa Monica.
Here is the car at the 2005 Bimmerfest, next to Gordon's Sahara Tii.

I know it's the 4th and all so I'm not expecting anything. I'll be at the Lions Gate by the old Mc Clellan AFB.
Beer and o2 talk?

Sorry I can't be there, Harv. But I remember flying into Mc Clellan AFB on my final return from Taiwan during the Vietnam War. It was the "sweetest" return to the Good Ol USA I ever made. We are blessed to live here.
Enjoy California while you are here.
Happy landings...

Great story, Sam. Glad you made it home safely. Just you and the dog??

Aces.
I just registered the car at the CA DMV. No mention of smog. I guess 76 is now exempt?
That is great news....They haven't asked me for smog for 4 years now. I was afraid that it was just some abberation and they would soon catch up with me. ( I was reluctant to even say anything to anyone about it) It seems that they are setting the dates by the VIN, and earlier build dates are now exempt. I believe that the law took effect in April and some of our cars became 30 years old before that. Still not sure enough of this to go down there and admit that I need to be smogged.
Welcome to the "club", wait two more years, then take all that crap off.

its a good place to get answers in real time, follow up questions are easy and quick. but mostly its a big waste of time, you're NOT missing anything!! ;-p
With that kind of glowing recommendation, I can't wait to find out when it is going to happen. Waiting breathlessly by my keyboard for it to begin.
Seriously, maybe if we publicize it a little more, when we choose a day and time, we might get a little more "quality" chat experience...
Thanks for all your work on the site...
Now if I could only get Jay to explain his obtuse subject line....
-
sounds like you are getting close..I would think it should be fine w/o anything on that open spot on the white valve. I usually pay for his time and have my mechanic (who has a close working relationship with the smog station) pretest the car before the actual test. Usually always have to tweak it a bit, but it does pass.

did the link help??
The loose hoses should connect to the center of the "black electromagnetic valve" which is at the top of your pic, and the vac retard side of the distributor, which is closest to the distributor, I believe on the bottom.
The white hose in question, goes from the control valve to the intake manifold (see pic) it may split and also connect to the "white electromagnetic valve" If you have a Weber, they may have eliminated this because the weber doesn't have a "dashpot"
Gee, I hate california smog stuff... Good luck

repost your pics, chris..
use the "add an attachment" feature, browse your computer til you find them and upload your pics from your computer.
see if this link will help..http://www.dagsites.com/emissions/76_2002p.JPG

I noticed a large hose that is hanging in the air.
It is this slightly out of focus black hose in the center of the picture, can someone tell me what is missing?
There is nothing missing. That hose only connects on one end to that valvelike thingie.(diverter valve, relieves airpump pressure, on deceleration or whenever necessary)
This is mine, same since new...

Is that a tii, ti, or just 2002?
just a 2002 with Weber 32/36 carb. Usually just driven hard around town. Too much fun not too. If I restrain the temptation to constantly put my foot in it, I can improve the mileage.
-
naked? whats all that about? i get like 18 mpg in my 74tii
I can usually get around 18 mpg with my clothes on...
I have a 76 4-speed, beating it around town, sometimes 150 to 180 miles on a 10 gallon fill-up. Get it out on the road around 75 mph for a long run, can get as much as 250-275 miles on a 10-11 gal fill up.
Hope that helps..

If you will notice, that car is in Thailand. Probably more Nissan parts there than BMW. Go with what you have available. Car actually looks pretty nice.
