I'd like to go. I'm going to check my callendar and see if it is possible. It looks like a fun drive and gathering. Maybe I can get some of the other So-Cal friends to join. What's the deal where it says it is by invitation only?
Ray? did you check your calendar? whats the verdict?
hamada

Scary to think we share the road with these people...

Just E-mail them at targacalifornia@gmail.com and they will E-mail you the registration forms. Good group of Porsche guys. Too much info floating about on the internet can put a damper on some great driving events. This gives them some control. Let me know what you decide, I still have make my final decision and arrange a room. There is NO charge to do the drive, just food and housing.I'd like to go. Seriously thinking about driving the Targa California in early April http://targacalifornia.net/?page_id=74. Anyone else so inclined? Looks like a great tour of central California roads. Thinking about sharing a room, or maybe even have room for a co-pilot. Open for discussion.

We can tell who has the 5-speed transmission.
With my 4:11 diff and 4 speed, 5k doesn't get me close to 100.

In Michael's case anything that looks like oxblood or sangria and he can be off to the races! When people ask where he is, the usual answer is car show? or Quien Sabe?
The good thing is that after Michael vents, he has a convenient memory lapse and then is guilt ridden and completely restores the car to better than new condition. From what I heard he does it for free too!
A friend:P
Now I know what you are talking about.....Saw him destroy a great bottle of Pinot Noir(sorta Malaga colored)....sucked it dry. But he never felt guilty about that, and didn't bother to replace it. I now know better than to mention the "M...." word to him again.
RIP

Weather was just perfect, a lot of double takes, and thumbs up. They are happy cars, they bring a lot of joy to people
Once again, your meanness shows through!
You probably beat up that early malaga with the tarp covering the windows - because it took your parking space or you did not like the color of the antenna tip! You probably still have the original owner under there - without any tv and probably with just pringles and no guacamole! You did all that damage with your bare hands?
If there was a show in town, you selfishly kept it to yourself! Why didn't you rent a hospitality suite with a big screen tv, and send everyone engraved invitations?
Mean, mean, mean! I hope the next run you make on Whonose, a big insect goes splat on your windshield!
A friend
If you did that to a Malaga, what would you do to an Inka??

Welcome Tony. We have you surrounded in SoCal. Check here for Semi-organized drives and a great annual meet http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/index.html. Some 02ers will attend the annual Bimmerfest, which will be at the Rose Bowl this year http://www.bimmerfest.com/event.php. A group usually plans a drive up to the Bay area for the Bay Area Swap and Show http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,337112/ There seem to be a casual gathering and drive planned this sunday 2/28 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,337377/. You can usually find some of us at Cars and Coffee in Irvine on Saturday mornings http://irvine.carsandcoffee.info/directions.php Hope to see you around soon. Of course I am stuck up here in the slums of Santa Barbara.

So... how does one lock your only trunk key in the trunk!?! dont you have to turn the lock with the key to lock it?
Just wondering!
I think it is because he is a new father and probably suffering from lack of sleep, which makes us somewhat prone to stupid errors.
Erik,
call me if you are still unsuccessful, maybe one of my keys might just make it work. Stranger things have happened. Good luck and take care of that baby (the real one, not the 02)

Thanks for that link, Joseph...here is a site that also has some great old photos of early California racing.

Thumbs up....Inka is spot-on

$500 max - around here, and that is really pushing it. For a quick sale I am thinking like $100 bucks - I am not joking either... dead serious.
You have to remember that Michael has been given cars nicer than yours for free. Then again, he is such a nice guy that he deserves them...
I would think that between $500 and $1K depending on the condition of the mechanicals would be reasonable.
good luck

pretty amazing when a bunch of them all gather together....
Newport Beach California....in case you are wondering..

I think a hundred of us could all pitch in and buy it. Each can drive for 3 days per year.
;-)
Cheers,
Ray
I can only afford an hour a year....should be good for about 200 miles if I hurry.

Lets see now......$25K for the big bumper 76, and $40K for the touring, Sell them both for $60K package deal. Wow, and I thought I was broke. Now if only I can get the 76 started.
B-J auction $25K
Mine....not quite as nice
E-bay $40K buy it now.
Mine....no Alpina goodies, no sunroof, and only a 1802
Nah....I guess I will keep them.

Thanks for your response mate.
True, a lot of users here are from the US. RHD configurations do run into exhaust manifold issues. My "BTB 3" manifold was specifically designed to allow E30s to have both an uprated steering rack (E36, E36, Z3, etc) and have BTB's renowned performance mani, without having to change the rack's mountings or modify the steering column etc.
This is a major factor for me. I am one of 20ish people in the world who owns one. They'll only make them if there is demand for a group buy in the off racing season. Essentially the same as the standard BTB-2, which there is loads. But anyway, I'd really want to use that.
About the "desirability" of a 2002 touring. They are generally undersirable cars/bmw's but within a niche community, the popularity for them will be much higher. For example, most E30 owners/fans would see the charm in an unmolestered 1984 316 chromie with an M10 engine (absolute bottom of the chain). Personnally I prefer the saloon 2002's, but the tourings have their charm. Considering I live in Jersey, which is a 9x5 mile island stuck in between the UK and Europe, to even find a 2002 for sale is lucky.
But as you said, most of the info I'll probably find on here relates to the US spec cars.
As I said, if I could get this car in my possesion, I'd probably do something closer to a resto, and learn about the possibilities as I go. Exhaust and gearbox issues when fitting the M20 into one is enough for me to know that the M20 will suffer badly from that (for what I want from the car).
So, what are the common engine mods/swaps? I assume M10 turbo's? and S14's? Possibly M52's?
Check with Nick at this website http://www.m2bmw.com/ he is somewhat local to you (England, France) and I believe his Touring is also RHD.
Good luck and welcome,

For me, it's stupid fun to drive , very reliable, stupid fun to drive, smog exempt in CA, and most of all, stupid fun to drive...
+1
plus it is fun to try to follow napa02 through the hills in the "Shamrock Rally"

This looks exactly like the '74 Inka I just bought.....for $4800 (alright, mine doesn't have bottlecaps).
I would settle for the 10% premium.....now if I could find someway to tow it to Scottsdale.....I guess I could make mine look like that for less than $20K
$2,475.00
$24,750.00

[waking up after sharing the same bed on the motel]
John: Ray... Why did you kiss my ear?
Ray: Why are you holding my hand?
John: [frowns] Where's your other hand?
Ray: Between two pillows...
John: Those aren't pillows!
Looks a lot like them......I think I will get my own room, thank you..
For some reason I think that Hamada and his wife will opt for their own room too.
