Just bought a brand new espresso machine

I bought my previous one in 1983. It is a full stainless steel machine. Heavy and shinny. It still perfectly works but I wanted to try some new technology after 20 years of faith.

So I bought this new generation of Espresso machine. It is made in Germany by Krupp and is light.

Wow. It is very very light. When you turn it on, it takes 2 minutes before you can make a cup of espresso (the old one took at least 15 minutes to warm up). The steam is perfect, plentyfull and powerfull.

Now I am scared. Does it mean that the new BMWs have that same technology gap? My 2002 being that old stainless steel espresso machine and the newer e46 have all that new flawless technology. Instant start, all buttons and knobs are smooth. Plenty of power and easy to use. BTW I kept my old espresso machine in a box. I still love it.

I have a new cheapy, but someday I would love to have an old stainless one. Mine tastes ok, but I'll bet that 20 yr old baby makes one helluv an espresso. Interesting timing-I have a serious espresso buzz workin right now. Who says the matrix is fiction?

I do not know if you have seen that commercial. It rains, a strange old guy on a bicycle walks by some garbage where an old lamp has just been disgarged, as a new lamp was bought and installed in the appartment. The lamp looks very pityfull, it really touches the viewer. Then the old guys turns to the camera and says that we are mostly stupid to be sad for the lamp because it is barely a lifeless object and that Ikea has tons of new stuff to buy.

Well, my old machine (which I plan to keep in abox in the basement) sits by the entry hall. It lloks very pityfull and sad. I had her when I was a student, 20 years ago. And will not disgard her, just retire her after 20 years of good and faithfull service. As with an old car.

I drive a '72tii and a '98 M3. Hands down, the M3 is eons faster, smoother, more comfortable, more reliable, better a/c & heat, quieter, and generally does everything better. What the M3 doesn't have is the connectedness feeling the '02 has. The raw connectedness is why I still have an '02.
