I have seen 2760003 and the owner offered me the chance to buy it about 20 plus years ago.  The seller wanted about 16K for it. The tii was located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.  I passed, I thought that was price was way too high.  You have to step back and remember how cheap 02's were in So Cal in the 90's. I bought a running, pass smog, good condition, 74 2002 for $750 in LA county in the mid 90's.

I knew immediately that it was a bona fide sighting when you described it as a Golf example, a rare enough color, but a color verified by the Archives report! If you can think of any additional details, please contribute them here.
