  1. I recently purchased a 71 2002 and smelled fuel inside the car. Turns out someone had used conventional rubber fuel line in place of teh correct plastic fuel line along teh passenger side rocker. They had glued the carpet to the rubber fuel line and the glue was breaking down the rubber, which I believe was causing the rubber to permeate fuel odor. I purchased the correct fuel line from BMW but when trying to route it through the firewall I noticed that the fuel line and evaporator line were going through 2 separate holes. The evaporations line runs being the center console and comes through much further towards the center. The previous owner had the fuel line running through much further towards the passenger side behind the cylinder head area. What is the correct location for these lines? I would appreciate anyone's advice here.

  2. I have been tracking this car for a week or 2 in south Florida and have not been able to verify any of the claims made by the seller about the modifications. I contacted Little Germany in Tucson, AZ and spoke to 3 people that have been there for years and they say they do not build or modify engines. So the statements about all the mods done to the engine by Little Germany, is false. Please be careful if you are considering this car and make sure you verify everything stated, in person.

  3. Here are some follow up pictures which seem to confirm that the wheel wells were painted the color of the car at the factory. This particular vehicle is a polaris turbo. The car was heavily coated in cosmilene for storage and rust prevention, at some point in its life. Below the cosmilene was black undercoating which may or may not be factory applied ( yet to be determined). Upon removing the black undercoating, a layer of polaris was found and then the gray factory metal primer. This allows me to conclude that the factory did paint the car color in the wheel wells. I will also try to make this determination on the floor pan as well. Additionally, I am including some photos of what appears to be the factory yellow final assembly quality control marks. This indicates that, other than bushing replacement and maintenance, this undercarriage has been unrestored don this vehicle.

  4. I have seen some really well restored Turbos over the past few years. Some of them are undercoated in the wheel wells and floorpan with black undercoating with a light texture. I also saw a really nice car but the entire floorpan and wheel wells were painted silver, as the car was Polaris, and was cleared. I was wondering if anyone knows how the Turbo actually left the BMW factory- with or without undercoating? Also, if they did not leave the factory with undercoating, was the floorpan and wheel wells painted the same color as the car? Any help would be much appreciated.

  5. I actually considered purchasing this car and looked at it. It appears that the front end has been driven back into the doors, there is a pretty good amount of damage. The trim on the drivers side is chrome look tape on type plastic trim that has been attached where the metal trim should be. Th car also has a pretty good amount if rust. I did not drive it but the engine sounded ok when I tool a really quick listen to it. In my opinion, the car is a donor car at this point in its life.

  6. Looking for the upright assembly for the threaded rod with the hold down plate. See Photo. This is the assembly that is welded to the spare well and it holds the spare wheel and tire in place. If someone has a parts car and can cut a circle around the mount.

  7. Here are some pics of an early production 74 Turbo. Th casting all seems to be inline that it is a 74 block. There is nothing near the starter for a vin. You can see the casting on the block...74 and 10G, which translates to July 10th. It also clearly says on the casting BMW EB. I am guessing the EB is the casting plant or location? There is also a photo of the block where the vin or other should be and it is blank. No appearance that it was ground off or other. My understanding is the car was delivered in early 74, so my guess is that a casting date of July on the block with no vin would have been a warranty replacement. I am going to check for numbers on the exhaust side. I think one of you mentioned near the bell housing.

  9. I recently looked at  a '74 Turbo but when I checked to see if it had matching number son the engine, the spot was blank. The vehicle was an early production '74. I remember hearing that many of the early Turbo's had failures and that quite a few received factory replacement engines. I searched online, briefly, for articles about this but could not find any. By the way, the block in the vehicle was a 1974 casting, it was cast a few months after the delivery date of the vehicle, thus I was drawing theconclusion about it being a replacement or crate engine. Any info from the community would be appreciated.

  10. I was also scammed by Steven Ocampo (aka Kevin) In NY. He has a few user names on this site, 752002 is one. He goes by the Venmo user name @woodworks-2-2. He also utilizes the following cell numbers  347-791-2628 and  646-545-6567. I posted a parts wanted ad for glass. He responded, sent me pics and sounded so sincere. I should have known better to not send him money through Venmo. Do not use Venmo, they provide you with no support or help. If anyone gathers more info on this guy, including an address, I would also like to join the legal action against him. This is a wonderful and trusted community of BMW lovers and this guy is poisoning things.

  11. The guy told me he was in NY. I am not sure I can say first names but it starts with a K. This is all based on what he told me on a phone call. Here are some other people complaining about the same guy. I believe he is operating under at least one other user name, which I am trying to dig up. Using Venmo was the biggest mistake. On the phone he sounds like a nice younger guy with a car he is parting out because it got wrecked. It is all a lie. Check this out.   https://www.bmw2002faq.com/profile/49857-752002/?tab=node_feedback_Feedback

  12. Thanks for the suggestions. Against my better judgement, I had my son send him $250 through Venmo. I should have known when the guy said he did not accept PayPal. After doing a little research online, I can see I am not the only one who didn't receive goods. Sent him the money and now, months later, he has never sent me the glass.

  13. Finally getting around to upload some info and pics of the restored stock steel 51/2 x 13 wheels for the 74 Turbo. My goal was to get the wheels to look as close as possible as they were to the factory when the car was new. I found wheels for sale online which stated were NOS and considered buying a set, but I found it difficult to determine if they were actually NOS or painted. Then there was the difficulty of the money transfer and freight charges. I decided to retire the ones I had.

After a tremendous of research done online by my wife, trying to locate and determine the correct center color and outer color code, it was nowhere to be found. If anyone ever locates the actual color codes or names of the color used when these wheels were new, please post here. We could not find any reference to the colors and looked at a ,altitude of pics online....were the centers black? Were they gray? Was there metallic in the color? The challenges many of the wheels were painted throughout the years, so what was the original color scheme? Thanks to many of you gentlemen, I received a lot of info that was beneficial.

I took the wheels to local wheel restoration company, of course these were young guys and they were kind of intrigued and what I was asking for was foreign to what they do with modern cars. They stripped, straightened and powder coated the wheels. They chose the outer silver color based on photos provided. The inside color we chose after looking at 100s of paint chip samples was:

    BMW A90 A805172

This is what we found to be the closest match to pictures of what we thought were original unpainted stock wheels. It was hard to tell from the photos, but the center anthracite/darker color, appeared to have a satin type finish, not really flat or glossy. The cost of restoring each wheels about $200 a piece. We then purchased new period style correct 185/70 13 Vredestein tires from Tire Rack.  They were shipped directly to the wheel restorer who was happy to mount and balance them. I believe Dunlop also makes a similar tire but it is much harder to purchase the US and more available in Europe. See photos.

  14. Thanks, All. Posted some pictures of the mirror I would like to locate. Please let me know if you have one like this and preferably with all necessary components to install.

    I think the BMW part # is 51 16 1 804 452 based on what I found on RealOem.

  15. I was given the name of GAHH Automotive in LA by a friend that said they specialize in older European car vinyl and leather. I spoke to then a few months ago and they said they have the patterns to make Turbo seat covers. I believe they quoted me about $1200 for the 2 front seats. I did not purchase them but at some point will need too to get the car to where I need to have it. They said they actually create the pattern by heating vinyl material. They stated they have done Turbo seats in the past. I did not speak to them with the level of detail and knowledge that some of you here have. If anyone is going to order seat covers, maybe we can put a larger order together as a group and obtain more favorable pricing. Also, please make us aware of any further information if you locate someone to make you  the seat covers.
