  7. So I popped off the valve cover to see any visible signs of anything unusual before I attempt to start my car for the first time many. many years. I noticed that one of the rockers has some damage. you can clearly see some marring. Is this something that would need to be replaced before attempting to start it up?

  9. So, quick background. I recently picked up a 1968 Caribe 1600-2. # 1562051. It had been sitting in Arizona for over 20 years (according to PO), so Its in need of a complete make over. Haven't done anything to it yet except take some inventory of what it will need replaced to try and start it. This will be my first attempt at a full restoration, so it will be a very slow process. Looks to be relatively dry. the only rust I found so far is a small hole at the bottom of a fender and some small holes in the spare tire well. Im sure I'll find more when i start removing the coating on the floors, but its mainly surface rust throughout. Anyway. while casually looking through the old manuals, I found some hand written papers that appear to be a parts list to previous work to the engine. No dates, so who knows when it was actually done. I remember seeing a picture of these pages by the PO in the for sale ad, but completely forgot about them until the other day. The PO said it was handwritten by the her father (or father in law..cant remember), who owned the car before he passed away. It was very cool to find some history of the car. Here are the pics of the parts list. Love the "no smog bullshit" comment . haha
  10. Those swan mirrors are nice! I'll be restoring the car back to original condition, so I'll be on the hunt for the correct mirror. But its not in the current budget. Thanks for all the input guys. RCM3. I'll shot you a PM to see how much you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Can anyone tell me if this mirror could be original to my car? It came with a 1968 1600-2 that I bought, but it wasn't mounted. It was in the trunk. The PO couldn't guarantee that it was original to the car? The car has a Dec 20, 1967 build date.
  12. Just found one Thanks everyone!
  13. I read a few posts on here where it was stated that they are all the same. But Im not sure myself. I checked a few auto parts sites, and they all came back as the same part # for 2002 and 1600 through out all years.
  14. Looking for a working ignition switch for my 1968 1600. tumbler and key would be great, but not a deal breaker. TIA!

  19. Thanks for the replies. I actually contacted fisher shipping. Trying to decide on a couple of other recommended shippers. I wish I could drive it. But its a non running car. Hasn't been started in years. So that's not an option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. So I decided to buy the 68 Caribe 1600 that was listed here in the forum. And now Im looking at having it shipped over to me in NY. Can anyone recommend reliable company? I tried Uship when I had my e36 M3 shipped to me from Texas. I guess its hit or miss with them because she shipper had a good rating, but ended up being a nightmare. Any help is appreciated! pic for attention!
