So PFFFFFTTTTT- BMW, you build expensive commuter cars, and racing has always come second...
This is what I always believed. Also, focused highly on making a car perform and look as good as possible with reliability and resale not even being part of the equation... I would go out on a limb and say BMW must have the worst resale value in the world. Its great for people like me to pick up a slightly used car at a bargain though

OP has not returned any pm's or replies to this post? I pm'ed to buy days ago and still have not heard back yet.

Must be a new pricing strategy prior to ebay listing!
Nah, just a way to tell people it is for sale by auction.. Otherwise, if it was a true parts for sale listing, the seller must list the actual price.. someone is working the grey area, lol..

Ou yess please, Toby. We're researchers, aren't we? Here we need facts and no yadayada.
I've been trying this once but had to learn that my lathe is too small. The distance between chuck and bed is not enough to let a strut rotate.
Keep us posted. For some case there may be Tom (mintgrun) to chime in since he's got a lathe, too.

I sawed mine off with a band saw and then threw it in a mill. A mill works well for machining away the tube and you can open it as much or as little as you.

this is very interesting - however, i think (from what im looking for), this is overkill. but my hats off to you - this is quite awesome!
For sure, I have access to machines and I design for a living so, this is a fun project

Great info guys! Keep it coming!

Great info everyone! I realize some racers aren't going to share but, realistically, this is not really a new platform. I assume everyone has long tried everything.

220 race 2 liter with 8V head
That is a nice number! thanks for sharing. You think that is common and reliable number among other race motors?

Formula one racing version of the M10 (called the M12) about 1100 hp. There were also some claims of a 1400 hp output, but to measure accurately above 1000 hp at the time was difficult. (see Wiki)
I think we all know that famous motor but, that is also turbo charged and barely a m10. You can never compare flow of a 16v head to the flow of a 8v head.
I'm talking about, What is an estimated high HP number for a naturally aspirated m10 motor that racers are currently using in their race cars. 150, 175, 200??

What induction? Running at what RPM range? How long would you want it to last? .... -KB
All out, max porting, big cams, big bore, whatever induction, frequent rebuilds, etc. Just wondering what the max(or close to) hp is that a top engine builder can get out of a m10. Clearly estimates or a guess is fine.

I am raising all my points by 2". It is not that much work and if it is worth it is the real question. Since I never do anything without pain and suffering, I chose to do it, lol..
I can do more but with the right shock/strut lengths, I can easily lower the whole car to about 5" from the rocker to the ground without any crazy suspension issues or loss of travel. I am running 15" wheels and keeping the tire OD close to stock(within 1" or so). Also, high spring rates and carefully measured bump stops.

Looks good ! That looks like a cool engine leveler!

I tried making a front spindle setup out of other makes front uprights and there are a lot of challenges to overcome. The main issue is not many use a modern day hub with 4 x 100 bolt pattern.
I made one in billet instead. This is an early concept drawing with 90% real dimensions. I need a few days to finish it with discs and calipers.. It is a true "bolt on " bearing assembly.
-
Anyone know what an all out race M10 would make for hp? 175+? at the flywheel or rwhp?
-
-
picture is not working? Do you mean a detachable hub/bearing assembly like an e46+(and every new car on the road)?
I am making a billet version(not for sale).

Audi A5 or S5 all day long. Most reliable car we had and very winter worthy. Very good looking and fit in finish is great. Quattro system is better than my ford 4x4 F250

Is it too much to say, I wish I was the white car in May?

Why not a M42 with an auto trans? I'm sure a competent shop can do that swap.

With the caveat that your carb's air/fuel mixture is good. You can sit at redline all day. Keep in mind, the rev limiter is there protect the engine but, like being on an airplane at 10,000 feet with no seat belt sign on, you are free to rev anywhere between 0 and redline!
ALL my vehicles see redline every time I drive them. Some, many times a day. All have reached 100k+ miles without issue.
ALL manufactures have a redline that is set far below what the engine can take. They put it in a place where the engine just doesn't make anymore power so, might as well shift and fall back into a rev range that does make power.
