I finally broke down and bought a 1976 2002 after years of wanting one and after getting a true view of all the rust issues with my car, may have changed my plans. Your car seems to be much more solid than mine. I am currently having a welder look at my rust issues to get a verdict. If it is too expensive to replace whole panels I may just go the cheaper route and have him cut out the smaller areas of rust and have him form and weld these parts in. Don't ask how this is cheaper but he is the second person to quote this way. I have decided to make a fun SCCA car out of it and not worry too much about the authenticity of the car, as it is only a standard 2002. I wish I could dedicate the time you are to purposefully restoring a car. Good luck and keep us posted.
