I just got my '02 last weekend, and I haven't seen another here in months, but wherever I park car the car people run up and want to take a picture or tell me about one that they or a friend or family member used to have. It makes people smile.

Gotta love Inka! Your car looks great. Hood River? I used to drive Vancouver to Hood River every Friday night in the summer for years. Windsurf the Columbia and blast home on Sunday night. I had a 73 Malaga tii at the time.
Coming to the Vintage, Kent, WA, July long weekend? Would love to see your car in the flesh.
Yes, Hood River! It's even crazier with kiters now. I came out for whitewater kayaking and mostly bike now, but I've done some sailing.
I've got that on my calendar for the 4th weekend and I'd like to come, but I can't really commit to anything right now. I'll just say that I'm in a transitional period of my life these days. There's the vintage races at PIR the following weekend and also the Maryhill show and hillclimb in October that are easy for me to get to. I'm hoping to get some nice photos. It would be even better if I could sell some.

Time to give that new ride a shakedown run!
I'd love to come down, but it turns out that I'll be moving that weekend. The best thing about my new place is that I'll have a garage for my 02 and huge basement for my motorcycle and bikes.
Hoping the interior is finished in time. Looks like it will be a game time decision based on current progress:
You need a windshield and driver's seat and you're golden!

Roadhog: nice Malaga. I had a 73 Malaga tii once, up until 1988. Rusted away. Great car for driving to Hood River, Oregon, every weekend with a stack of sailboards on the roof, playing highway slalom. Loved that car.
You should come to Hood River again! In fact, everyone should, we've got some amazing roads here in the greater Gorge area.

Thought I would make my first post on this forum! The owner before me was lucky enough to snatch up this plate!
Nice paint! And thumb!

So how much negative camber do you get with IE fixed plates and these offset spacers (no bent struts)? I'm lowered on H&R springs and Billie Sports.
This will be exactly my setup and I'll post when I have it installed. I'm thinking it will be close to -2 degrees.
-
This drawing I grabbed from an earlier post was helpful to me. I can see that adding the offset will push the bottom of the strut out, and the spacer brings the control arm back down to compensate for shorter springs, returning to the original steering geometry. I am running 15" rims, so no clearance issues there.
I hope to not be asking all of these newbie questions for long. Thanks for your patience.

Not a fan of the Bavaria arm option.
Pay close attention to the comments section.
By the way, love Hood River. Spent a ski season working at Meadows, you've got some great roads on which to enjoy that 02!
I wasn't aware of the offset roll center spacers, that does look like a better way to go. I'll call and add them to the IE order I have in already.

Hood river is the best! I've been here for 12 years and ride bicycles and motorcycles and do a little Nordic skate skiing.

So tempting! I'm about 11 hours away in northern Oregon and I was just down there two weeks ago with my daughter. My van window was broken in Golden Gate Park and I lost about $2,500 worth of electronics. Joy.

My '73 project on it's first "outing".... (She's for sale by the way.)
Can you tell me about the fog light brackets you have on the front bumper supports? I'm thinking of doing the same thing on my '71.

Thanks, I hadn't yet read about the Bavaria control arm mod, that sounds like an excellent way to go and requires no fabrication or mods to the body of my car. I'm not too concerned with adjustability, when I find a setup that works I tend to set it and forget it, and this isn't a race car. I see that bavauto has them for $145 each ('02 arms are $89 each), where else should I check for prices? If I have new bushings in my '02 arms already, would those work in used Bavaria arms?
Would the 3.0 Bavaria control arm use the same front sway bar and endlink arrangement? I have the IE bar.
This is my first car with manual steering and the feel is very light near center and at higher speeds, so I think more caster would be helpful. It's already pretty heavy at low speeds and tighter turns with my 350mm steering wheel, but I could switch to a slightly larger one.

Don't forget the upgraded wine corks came with a few inches of fishing line tied around the cork and that attached to the latch.
It stops you loosing the corks. And new corks are NLA from BMW now.
Brilliant! It's too bad I don't fish either. I do have dental floss, though. Don't tell anyone.
-
Ahah! My car came with some wine corks and I had no idea what they were for. I'm glad I didn't toss them away, because they'd be expensive to replace, since I don't drink wine.

My M20 converted car came with H&R springs, Bilstein Sports, and IE bars and front camber plates. I don't have the alignment specs, but there appears to be not much less than zero camber, and much less than in the rear. Unsurprisingly, with the heavier motor (somewhat offset by fiberglass hood) there's significant understeer and I'd like to go a couple of degrees negative, then balance with the bars. I'm considering the IE strut mod, but I'd have some downtime and shipping expense on top of the cost of the mod. Has anyone performed this themselves? I do have some machinist buddies that could probably help. Any other options I should consider without starting over with coilovers at this time?

Man, dcmackintosh, beautiful car!
Thanks! It's far from a show quality paint job, but it cleans up nice. I'm debating taking the front bumper off of it, I think it looks better without. I could install fogs or some kind of tow hooks, or rivet on some little sheetmetal covers for the holes.

Do any electronics types know if this Garmin GPS receiver could be used with the Intellitronix position to pulse converter I already have?
-
Maybe the $170 one from that other site is better. It still seems like a magnet on the driveshaft and pickup in the tunnel would work better and should be much cheaper, but there would need to be some sort of converter for the pulse rate.

A previous owner installed a Haneline gage set in my car around 2008, because of the M20 conversion. There's a GPS antenna on the left side of the dash. The car was shipped across the country (arrived Saturday evening) and I live in a hilly area (Columbia River Gorge). The previous owner (in FL) mentioned that it could take a couple of minutes to lock on. I drove it for an hour that evening and another 30 minutes the next day (to the top of a hill where I got a good southern horizon) before I first got it to lock on and give me speed and odometer readings. It then worked consistently the rest of that day. This morning I drove it for almost an hour to work and it never did lock on. Fortunately, I know that 75 mph is 3,500 rpm, so I can watch the tach. My phone and Garmin bicycle and car GPS units don't have any trouble in this terrain, but this one is almost useless for me. I have what I think is the sender on the bottom of this page. I haven't decided whether I want to pay $110 to see if the other one works better, but that may be my best option.

I just took delivery of an M20 car converted by Groma (now Manofied) in 2008. I'm afraid I can't help much, since I've only poked around under the hood a bit myself, but I do have a couple of photos from under the hood from the two previous owners (the second one had it painted Inka), which might give you some ideas.

I've only taken photos of the car while washing it last night and out on the road today.

I can't figure it out. Now that I actually have one I'd like to add it to my profile.

They are Enkei J speed 15 x 7 wheels mounted on Dunlop Direzza DZ 101 tires.
Those are nice looking wheels and one of the lighter sets available. I'm tempted to get a set of those or another set of Kosei K1 Racing 15x7, which are not as pretty, but are cheap and light. It's a shame I can't use the set I already have on my Miata, but the offset is way off.
I'm curious how the DZ 101s with their higher treadwear rating compare to the S-Drives, which seem to get good reviews. They're the same price at Tire Rack right now.
Enjoy the car!

Quick question, I'm on the road and my brake master cylinder seems to be leaking down. I don't need anything special, just DOT 3/4, right? Thanks.
