    And so it begins!
Getting some items ready for Derby and Tesoro's debut for their first time at Brisbane Swap and Show in May....
For those period correctos... the rear taillight lenses for US 1600's were red... however, EURO 1600's were amber centers. Derby originally came with original amber center lenses but they looked a bit faded so I swapped them out to the red centers... I like the red centers... but I'll be switching the taillight lenses back to the amber centers. Keeping Derby PC!

DERBY IS DONE! @northbaybavarian Rick had completed Derby’s engine to ORIGINAL SPECS in less than 3 weeks! That’s including rebuild of transmission, carburetor, suspension, painting, bead blasting... it’s really remarkable and the quality of work is superb!! Unlike TESORO’s restoration with the exception of the body and paint, DERBY’s engine and mechanical restoration was quite enjoyable! No stress at all! It was a great honor and pleasure to work with Rick! He does projects as if he was working on his own car. There’s so much passion and care that was put into this rebuild project that I think he had a lot of fun doing it! ? I can’t wait to show you what under the bonnet! ☺️Now its time to break in the engine and take Derby to the beach! ???‍♀️?

Le left at 4AM this morning to trailer Tesoro home! He crunched for the finish line and got the car here to San Rafael at 11A this morning!
Talk about first class customer service with personal delivery!
I have been waiting for this day for almost 2 years! It's been an amazing emotional journey!
Whenever you see a successful person, you only see the public glories and never the private sacrifices to reach them. So I want to take this opportunity to Thank Mr. 2002garagewerks for all your hard work and delivering my work of art. Thank you for putting up with my 'bossyness' and working with me in bringing this amazing build together.
Here is a video of Le rolling Tesoro off the trailer and me driving it for the first time with some trepidation accompanied by Le ! ?
Wishing Le safe travels home! He's already on his way back to LA!
Happy Sunday everyone! Time to start on putting the interior together!!

Driving along on a spirited drive for my birthday today and 2002sday and I run into Sammy Hagar in his z8 Alpina! He apparently knows Bill Arnold (because Bill used to work on his 3 series) and he wished me a happy birthday! ?

Here is a short video of the exterior of Derby and some pics after I cleaned him up a little...
I've noticed in pictures that the color is different from angles and lighting....
I absolutely am in LOVE with this car... it's so pure, unadulterated, simplistic beauty that makes it so attractive. Such a different caliber from a car like Tesoro... but both very special to me.
    More pics coming soon!
    Enjoy!

Got newly upholstered furniture for the fronts!
How do you like Tesoro's front seats?
Real leather and suede, the design was inspired by Porsche Singer. Instead of doing the leather weaving, I decided to go leather on the outer bolsters and suede fabric for black seats.
I like how the Franzini Bros call me "Lisa Beemer"
WAIT TIL YOU SEE THE REARS!

Here's a little something not a lot of people knew about.
People have asked me, 'what's with the little cubby roll up thing in your center console in Tesoro?
Growing up, my father had an array of Mustangs that he had owned from the 60's and 70's. And as a little girl being passenger in his cars, I used to always fiddle around and open and close that roll up door in the center console of his 1967 Mustang fastback which drove him crazy! Haha! ?
So that roll up door in my console is somewhat of a reverence to my super cool dad.
My mother and father are now retired and live in Pacific Grove and there are times when they see an 02 here and there driving around. My dad once related a story to me saying that he saw an 02 at a gas station and said to the guy... "my daughter has an 02" .... and the guy says "oh yeah? That's cool..."
in which my father proudly states.... "She's the 02princess" ..... ?
So here's a Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there! Hope your day is as special as you are!
(Enclosed is a pic of my dad with his 72 Mustang and me with my super huge smile!)

Had both Derby and Tesoro trailered out to Burbank for a shooting on a youtube episode for Jay Leno's Garage.

What an amazing experience to be in a presence of a very well known car enthusiast with a super large collection of rare cars!

Both cars were trailed down with the help of Performance Technic and my local mechanic Bill Arnold.

Jay LOVED Derby... he glanced over at Tesoro and admired the recent build, but Jay absolutely fell In love with an 'unmodified, mostly original car' within Derby.

Filming was nerve wracking and I felt very rushed as I didn't get to say what I wanted to about Derby so much... it just went very rapidly and lights and cameras were recording at different directions which were not easy to follow from someone who has no TV experience...

Jay and I then went on a drive and that's when it was much more relaxed and answering questions was much more easier than being put on the spot.

Jay had a catered lunch and we got to tour his HUGE collection of cars.
Regardless if someone's garage is bigger or better than the other person's ... Jay was a total down to earth person who has the same "car enthusiast bug sensation" that we all share.

Can't believe what a dream come true this is...  I hope to have represented the 02 community with much pride and respect and as soon as the show is posted, I will share the link on my blog.

It's owning both these pieces of art and meeting car enthusiasts of all different levels of love for these boxy little german cars that makes this car passion so incredibly amazing ...

Cheers! (With my gin and tonic in the garage detailing Derby before taking off to Burbank)

So here is the before and afters of the framerail!
I cringe at the looks of it from before!
But the masterwelder cleaned it up like new and we are off to body work and paint!
    Getting excited!!!

Here’s to a special 2002sday! Thank you so much to Petrolicious I’m so very honored! Your distinguished film making is incredible! Kudo’s to the film maker! ?

I’m grateful to Performance Technic for the use of their facility for the interview. And Thank you to 2002 Garage Werks for putting up with me as an ‘Attention to Detail’ customer! ? I appreciate all the hard work you helped put into TESORO. I’m forever grateful to all my friends who have supported me whether it was your positive feedback or helping me source parts for TESORO’s build.

This video was filmed in 3 days in the backroads of Marin. As a resident in Marin County,  there are some really nicely paved roads with incredible scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. The person who filmed this is a freelance videographer who also did some commercials for the last Super Bowl. His beautiful artistry is well portrayed in this video and I'm so lucky to have worked with him.

The interview was about 2 hours of just casual banter of questions and answers and I really enjoyed this segment as it was very light hearted and I could be more myself without having to stand next to a "Car Enthusiast Celebrity" - (AKA Jay Leno... ) and be so nervous!

Thanks to all for watching the video and following Tesoro and Derby's journey.

Tesoro was sent out on Friday to a new OEM headliner.... And BAM! Leave it to the professionals to put in a headliner over the weekend! New visors, dome light, e30m3 rearview mirror, and new rear handles will go in shortly to complete the new headliner look!
Time to start checking off more items on the checklist! ?
I can't believe how remarkably zealous Dr. 2002garagewerks is working as we are coming very close to getting Tesoro on the road home!
I have registered Tesoro for Brisbane, however, it was more for supporting the Brisbane Bay Area 02 Swap and Show, and to get a cool t-shirt. So I'll see you all there!  I see there are over 100 people attending!
I would have liked to have had Tesoro "driveable" to Brisbane... but considering that Tesoro would not have had all the unique and rare items on him, I would rather wait to have Tesoro Done and Ready for Legends of the Autobahn this year!
Let's bring Tesoro home for my birthday in July !!
We can have an 02P / Tesoro unveiling BBQ/PARTY before Legends!

(Pics include my e30m3 rearview maplight, RHD visors from Germany...)

Got Tesoro back from detail all shiny and ready for the first road trip to Monterey for Legends of the Autobahn and Festorics weekend 2016! Needless to say, Tesoro was in good company getting detailed!
To preserve the paint, I taped around him like they do at rally's. It may have been a bit overkill to do something like that, but how many of you would do the same especially after a full ground up restoration... on a black car??? ;-)
    See you in Monterey!
Thank you to Bill Arnold for the adjustments, oil change, and your wonderful service! ?

Thank you so much for watching Derby's video. Can't thank Petrolicious enough for putting out content that's "tastefully" done for us car enthusiasts! I would like to thank the videographer Sean Fannin who came out to shoot Derby in such a creative way! I would also like to thank Bay Area local Jim Huff who had an quick cameo appearance in this video with his 4 door 1600 Neue Klasse BMW. You can catch his petrolicious video called "the Grey Ghost" also on Petrolicious. My car enthusiast friends are all one of a kind and I enjoy seeing them at car events and just driving around on the roads! As mentioned in the video, appreciating cars are in our blood and we all speak the same language. Take care out there and drive tastefully!

Great to see some love from the e21/e30s today! Such a beautiful morning start to a lazy Sunday!
Special shout out to Dieter who drove from Sacramento with his sweet schwarz original 320is! and Thank you to Patrick from Bill Arnold's who drove Derby out for me!
Thanks to all who came out and hope to see more of a turn out for a drive and picnic for The end of Summer 02PCC in August! Mark your calendars! Last Sunday of August!
(Went to brunch afterwards and look what was on the menu! ? - too bad I don't like grapefruit! ?? )

    More Tesoro progress!!
New track rod, tie rod assembly, urethane steering coupler powder coated pitman arms... And of course, I had to buy myself a personalized necklace to go with all the plated little bits! wink emoticon
Tesoro is on beastmode right now so there will be more to see soon!

Here's some interior pics of Derby! Notice some of the rare pieces like the metal rear view mirror, the seat hinges, the two tone euro only seats, the silver instrument cluster in km/h, the chrome under dash, under the seat levers, the chrome window crank and door handle, hazard light under the dash, the original carpeting, white visors, original steering wheel.....! ?
What I love What I love seeing is the
What I love seeing is chrome ignition area where it says "Garage" and "Halt" ... Also, what's interesting to me is the key chain tag... I'm wondering if the original owner got the keys from the dealership and the keys came with the little imprinted tag "1600-2"...

Derby originally didn't come with seatbelts... and there was no way that I wanted to have the holes poked in the rear panels... so I had the masterful mechanic Bill Arnold install the Klippans for me in the B pillar... I liked that the car had no seatbelts... but if I'm gonna drive Derby... I have to have them in.. Safety first!

And yes... I already have the PC door arm rests to swap out...

So cool to see all original parts from 1967 in a 1600! More pics to come!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend! ??

This is my euro spec 1967 1600, 6volt.... matching #s in Derby.... restored 8 years ago in its beautiful original glory!
I am the 4th owner of this stunning car and it's documented that this is one of only four in the world surviving matching#s original Derby 1600 car.
I hope to share this journey with you as I start to preserve this vehicle by maintaining it to be period correct and original....
Tesoro is super happy to have someone to play with!

    More pics on the way!

Derby wins Second place in class at the Carmel By the Sea Concours on the Avenue! Both cars presented really well and I was also invited up to the podium to talk about my cars with Donald Osborn and Alan de Cadanet! ? Thanks to the help of Bill Arnold BMW, Mike Berger at Matteson’s auto Repair in Pacific Grove , and Connor Elkington from @vintageautobahn! And the driver for Tesoro Andrew Wilson! ?? So amazing to have met some really incredible car people and followers! Thanks for all the support!

I'm such a big advocate for safety components on our vehicles but also want to look cool doing so! ?
I highly recommend these LED rear taillight set up kit! They are engineered LED circuit boards designed specifically for our 2002s to fit in perfectly for the lenses whether you're a roundie or square!
I've been reading about too many rear end accident stories - that if our cars can be a little brighter... the better to be noticed!
It doesn't make Tesoro immune .... but I think all 02s should have these! Makes it safer out there for us to drive our beautiful babies!
As Bill Arnold installed these for me... he said they were 'insanely bright!' ?
Here's a pic of 'before' the install and a video of reverse, brake, right, and left!

    Another week of progress!
Tesoro was carefully stripped of the interior floors and went to bare metal for welding up holes and rustproofing! Built to last another 40+ more years!
Yes, I will be that little old lady in 40 years driving a black 2002 with chromed out bumpers, custom BBS rims, and sexy seats.... Still wearing my heels of course! LOL!
Thanks to all who are following Tesoro's journey!

Here are the latest pics of Tesoro getting primed and sand blocking. Again, the body is making such a beautiful transformation to it's original form! (Probably even better than original!) You can see how "closely" the body shop guy is working with Tesoro.... the attention to details in the lines, seams, and holes are just perfect!
