Hi all,
I searched the FAQ for an answer on this, but I haven't turned up much.
My temp gauge needle usually sits at about the midway point on the dial, but when I apply the brakes, it jumps to 3/4, or even all the way into the red, even if I'm stopped. Once I release the brake pedal, the needle drops back to the halfway point. Similarly, when I turn on a turn signal, the needle skips from halfway all the way up to the red, back and forth in time with the indicator blink/click sound.
Is this normal, or a sign of a greater problem? I'm worried that it could be a sign that my temp gauge is faulty, and that my engine is overheating more than I think.
The radiator has a small leak, and the hoses are kinda leaky too, so I'm taking the car in to have the radiator steamed and sealed, and will replace the hoses. Any chance that a properly-functioning radiator will solve this funny occurrence?
Thanks!

The previous owner put up some non-stock headliner -- kinda like a perforated leather? -- in my car. It's kinda weird, but it's clean and it's up there, so it's staying for now. That said, the bits around the sunroof have come mostly undone, and I was hoping that one of you good folks could snap a few pics of how your liner snugs up to the sunroof opening? Is it supposed to wrap up over the roof lip, or end at the opening?
Similarly, I'm not sure that the exterior parts/seals were reassembled properly. If any of you can share some photos of the correct setup, I'd be very grateful.

I've seen them in person at the Bay Area Swap n Show. They look fantastic, and Peter is a good guy. His new chrome bumpers do, too. I almost bought a set, but then stumbled upon some decent used bumpers that fit my car's "character" a little better.

NM/NA, but I drove it a while back and it was quite nice. It's been owned/maintained by Paul from Autohaus Exec, and it has some nice upgrades. I think it was around $8k or $9k when I test drove it, but that was many months ago.

I'm also interested in the Blaupunkt radio, if tinkwithanr passes. Please send pics. Thanks!

I had a similar problem a few weeks back. Battery had plenty of juice, but nothing would happen when I turned the key. Nada. Grounds were good, but the connection to the starter motor was loose and kind of mucked up. I took a wire brush and some of that fancy electrical sprays stuff to it, reconnected everything and PRESTO! Car turned over on my second try. Has been running smoothly (or as smooth as it ever runs) ever since.

Welcome! I'd go ahead and replace the fuses and scrub clean all the electrical contacts. I've solved a couple of problems on my 02 with a wire brush and a bit of effort.

Killed it on the character score, which is no surprise. Love the look of the roof rack and the fog lights.

Hey all,
The PO somehow managed to lose the red plastic inserts for my roundie taillights. I'm missing the piece of red plastic in the inner/brake light section of my taillight. If anyone has these kicking around, let me know.
Cheers,
Bjorn

Any of you good folks looking to sell a set of good chrome bumpers? Preferably the long euro variety. Or just the rear bumper?
Thanks!

I ordered a set of these short chrome bumpers from Peter after seeing his posting on this 2002FAQ site a while back. He mentioned also having them for sale on Ebay. I look forward to receiving and getting them on my 1600.

Cool, definitely let me know what they look like when you get them on your car!

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm thinking of placing an order soon. Thanks!

I just want to add that viewing the new format on an iPhone is a breeze. Super well done on that end!

I'm looking at this set of new chrome bumpers. Have any of you had any experience with these?

Another ditto. I'm having a hard time finding a decent looking set of used bumpers.

I've had my 02 for a few weeks, and I'm finally getting around to swapping out my spark plugs and replace with fresh NGK bpr6es, as recommended by others here. I figure this is a good time to update the wires, too, as they look pretty beat up. Do I need to use NGK wires to match the plugs? What do you folks use? It's a 1973, Solex carb.
Thanks

As someone who recently traded a manual for an automatic, I'd add that it partly depends on how you plan to drive your car. Mine is in daily driver condition, though I really only drive it a couple times a week, and when I do, it's the 3-mile commute to work (if I don't feel like biking) or to the grocery store or golf course. Those drives involve a lot of stop signs and lights, and no real stretches where I go over 40mph. In my case, an automatic is much more convenient than going from first to second to first to second over and over on a short ride.
I grew up driving stick and enjoy the hell out of it, particularly in an 02. But an automatic fits my needs better right now. I know some folks will say that an automatic invalidates your man card, but I'm comfortable and happy with my decision -- and what's more manly than that? I recommend you buy whichever car makes you feel the same way.
Also, the automatic has a lot more pickup than I expected it to.

Anything left?

Saw this on eBay. If you're in NY, this might be a good source of parts. A better ending for an 02 than the scrapyard.

I'm interested in the other rear, and possibly the front. Where are you located/what is shipping to 94025? Could you please send pics of the imperfections? Thanks!

I saw a nice Colorado/Inka roundie on Sand Hill in Palo Alto today. I tried to wave, but my 73 has developed a bit of a shimmy, so two hands on the wheel!

Yeah, that makes sense re airflow up front. Re: the differences between 26-42-47, will any of these cause harm to my system? It's currently stock, but I plan to add a radio and and fog lights down the road.

Apologies upfront for the simple battery question. I've done a bit of searching, but haven't found the exact detail, and I'd really like to avoid blowing myself up. The PO of my 1973 2002a left me with a dying 51R. I've learned that 42 is the appropriate replacement, but when I went to Costco I learned that they don't carry 42. I've read that 26 and 47 will also work, but do I need to set them up any differently? That is, if I'm installing in the front, do I need to worry about venting for the 26/42/47 batteries? Thanks!

That would make sense, as there are a few wires hanging out from under my steering column :-) I didn't think to search for faulty indicator grounds. Thanks!
