I read the post for the seats man. They are beautiful. I think I read about some black ones also? How much is shipping to 31324 ga?
-
Good stuff bro. I started my tear down today. I should be starting my build thread. What did you use to strip the inside of your trunk??
-
I actually took it off last night. I ended up just prying it off and surprisingly didn't damage the trim. I think.
-
Remove the trim from the clips first. Then grind off the nuts.
I thought you had Yo remove the nuts in order to take the trim off. I guess I was mistaken haha. I'm learning about this car as I go.
-
I'm having an issue getting the trunk lid belt trim off due to rust around the tiny nuts. I'm at the point of grinding them off or drilling the damn things out. They nuts are stripping as I try to take them off. I don't want to damage the trim. They are still in good condition. Any words of advice would be great. Thanks.

I cut 2 coils off my 73 stock springs lol. Had the spare tires in the front and could barely turn. Making a u-turn wasn't going to happen. If you are only cutting a little bit it shouldn't affect much.

It's getting cooler here in GA. I guess that's a god thing for me. I'm just a little nervous doing these kind of things. I've never done very much body work. I plan on doing the whole car myself. Got acess to a booth but no oven...
-
Totally agree with warmer temps being better. If you have smaller parts to do I have had good luck with stuff called Jasco. Got it at Lowes in a spray can. Kind of spendy tho at $7 something a can. What is the aircraft stuff going for?
7 bucks a can is quite expensive to do the whole car. I bought the aircraft paint remover for 36 dollars for the gallon. Check out some YouTube vids on it. Seems to work really well. There's also some stuff called Organochem by m2d. I don't know where to find it.
-
I appreciate the tips you guys. I'll make sure to have all my PPE to limit my risks of injuries. I'm picking up the paint remover tomorrow morning. I'll try it on the trunk first. I just need to figure out how to remove the belt trim without messing it up.

The arches are metal and pretty decent. I'll be mocking up my flares this week and post them up. By the looks of another guy who's done it, the turbo style air dam mates up. Slightly off but good.
-
Roger. Nice to know someone here has used it. I ordered a gallon of this stuff instead of the aerosol can. I guess I should have waited for a response. Thanks for the tip tho.
-
What paint removers have any of you used and what was your experience?
I've been trying to find a really good chemical paint remover and there seems to be many of them out there. I think I'm going to go with Klean-strip Aircraft Paint Remover. The YouTube videos are convincing.

What brings you out to savannah?

I see nobody has posted in here and I guess I'd like to start some discussion for the ga folks. I'd like to see how many there are to maybe meet up for some coffee on the weekend!

Heist:
I understand how you feel about sharing your work on these forums. Not that I don't like the FAQ but some people on here can be very harsh if you aren't a "purist". I always feel that you should do what you like and EFF everyone else haha.
Marshall: thanks for the link to Heists other thread. Can we be friends now? I promise not to ask anymore questions and search more into the FAQ for answers. Haha jk bro. No harm intended.
-
Nope. No build thread yet. I'll be starting it soon tho. As for the mk1 arches, I got them for 28 bucks a piece which sounded like a great deal to me. I have the site if you want it just in case you decide to do another build.
What forum do you have your build on right now since you don't really post on the FAQ? I'd like to follow it. I'll definitely hook you up with mine when I start it next week.
-
Dope! I should be startin my build process pretty soon. I've got a set of mk1 golf wheel arches that should look similar to your flares. Hopefully I can go pretty wide with them. Right now I have a set of black diamond racing wheels 16x8 et 0. Your car sure is an inspiration haha. Keep up the good work tho bro. I'll probably have some questions for you later...
-
Yo Heist! The car is coming along real nice bro. Can't wait to see the finished product. I too am a stance guy. Hurry up and update some more of your build thread home slice...

Ah. I see I'm the talk of this topic. I would think that a different example would have been made due to my circumstances.
LOL...nah...you are just dreaming..there will always be those that would rather be helped than help themselves
I've searched and read different threads. Also I asked for an OPINION on how hard the task was for those who have done it. I also believe that posting a topic with questions for getting HELP is a form of research. No disrespect to the Coast Guard but I guess I just don't know how you coasties do it. For us Army guys, the warrior ethos states "I will never leave a fallen comrade" and that I will never do. I don't criticize any of my peers nor my soldiers on questions they may have. If I have the knowledge to answer and help another learn to be better, I sure as hell will share my knowledge. I know OPSEC will partially be an issue here by but as being in the Intel Core, we constantly contact other units who are either currently deployed or have deployed to gather good intel on various targets and trends. I also work in a secure environment where I can't bring my phone to do research and where NIPR computers are hard to come by. For gods sake this is a forum to be able to ask questions and help others. This is the reason why many do not like to join these types of things due to the harshness.
He is an Army dude deploying there Admiral. Can't the Coast Guard give him a break :-) They do fight those wars.Proud father of an Army (11 Bravo) dude who trained at Ft Benning and deployed from Ft Stewart.
Thanks for the support buddy. Haha. I am also a fellow Dogface Soldier based out of Ft Stewart 3ID.

Hmm. I guess I'll just pay my buddy to do the work. I'll just work on everything else on the car haha.
-
I wish I could grab that!!
-
lol. I didn't even notice that. Good eye.
-
I got those bumpers Pat....

I wish it wasn't so far haha. There needs to be a get together in savannah. You know, there is a race track here... :•]
