  1. SOLD, please delete for sale: glass from 1974 2002. I have everything except windshield and one of the rear quarters. It is all in good shape, no cracks. The rubber in the vent windows even looks pretty decent. Located in California, South Bay, Santa Clara. $100 firm for all of it. I also have a head ($150) in great shape and front grills for sale ($50). This was stripped from a car which is being run in a 24 hours of lemons.
  2. Anyone know of a good shop that will fabricate a roll-cage in the SF South Bay Area?
  3. I think the smog models had a vacuum retard (like ours). Do you think changing the cam would be easier than swapping dizzy shifts?
  4. I think it was a vacuum retard unit - so now that we are backwards it is advancing. I should probably double check this with the timing light.
  5. Is the distributor spinning the correct way?. There is a spiral groove running up the shaft which seems to pump oil back into the engine. If you've got the distributor running backwards the groove pumps oil out of the engine. I ask because you appear to have a mismatch in distributor rotation directions, E30 318 versus 2002. I ran into a similar issue when I adapted an E30 distributor on to a 2002 head. I had to change the shaft, drive gear & lock the advance mechanism to make it work. (advance was done in the ECU) wow, that may be the issue. It is indeed running the opposite direction. I believe the dizzy gear was changed out in order to make it work with the new head. This is a group project (24 hours of lemons) so I will have to check what was done. How hard it is to change the shaft? I know the gear was replaced by driving a pin out.
  6. I have an oil leak from where my distributor does into the head housing. This is a 318i head (unknown origin... junkyard) using a 1974 2002 distributor. The o-ring was replaced already. The leak only occurs with the engine running/hot. It unfortunately drops oil directly onto the exhaust manifold- fire hazard and lots of smoke. Just changed the oil with fresh 20w-50 dino juice. Thoughts?
  7. Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Do you still sell these SS lines? Same price?
  8. Looking for non-leaking radiator that will fit into a 74' 2002. It can be ugly and grungy, it doesn't even have to be a 2002 radiator, just something that will fit. An electric cooling fan would also be nice. Located in SF south bay California.
  9. i dont actually know what is in the block, we haven't taken the head off yet, We just happen to have a nice 2002 head, and I was considering swapping it out for the 318 head when I do a head gasket. Thanks for the advice. For now I will probably just keep the 318 head unless there is some kind of a performance gain from the 2002. of course there are a host of other issues with this motor, it idles rough, runs rich, leaks oil from the head and distributor, blows water out of the exhaust, and, and has sorta poor throttle response. This is a 24 hours of lemons car, so it goes without saying we have no idea where the motor came from.
  10. Hello, I was wondering if a 2002 head will work with a stock 318i block/pistons. Is there any potential interference? How much will this change my compression? I do not know the year of the 318i, but the 2002 head came off 74 with flat topped pistons. I have found lots of threads about putting 1.8 heads on 2.0 blocks, but none the other way around. Thanks!
  11. Need a cylinder head for a 1974 2002 to potentially replace my bent valve beatup one. Located in South Bay CA.
  12. Hello, I recently started helping with a build of a 1974 2002 race car. All of us working on the car are novice mechanics- so please excuse the likely dumb question. Why is the cooling system routed through the intake manfold on some cars (like the 2002)? Is this just to help the engine warm up? Is it OK to bypass this in a race car build? For now we are sticking with the stock radiator- but there is talk of hacking together a volvo 240 radiator. Thanks!
