Please count me in on a roundie version. Any idea of projected cost and availability? I've got an extra set of buckets, is this going to be a core basis?
please let me know!

It looks very cool, understated yet tuff!
can you post a few shots of it with the wheels? Is your car stock ride height? I assume those are Rotas, but they look like deep dish... Just wondering as my next move is to get some Rota RB's.

Manchester-By-the-Sea welcomes us!
all in all, a great day! Thanks to all for welcoming me, and a shout out to Peter for orchestrating the day. Thanks to Scott for the email intros, and to Dave and Brendan for the route planning. Perfect weather, and trouble free ride.

slow crank, or no crank. charging system works fine.
Do yourself a fav and upgrade the starter motor (forum search helped me) and enjoy single crank starts.
The most satisfying upgrade i've made thus far!

I drive the Kaiser every day about 16 miles each way and it's my only car. Compared to my last car (1991 Audi Coupe Quattto) this car is so much more reliable, gets better mileage, looks fantastic. I couldn't be happier with the reliability of my DD. Given that I live in the northeast, and drive Route 1/128 twice a day (northeast people can attest to how sh*tty these roads are), I feel like i'm ahead of the game.
I say find a nice start, keep up with basic maintenance, don't ignore odd noises or steering/pedal feedback, and you'll be fine.

Nick, you're correct about the 'leveling off' aspect of springs. Also, bear in mind that most springs are not linear, and cutting off the ends changes not only the geometry but the handling, and usually not for the better. Spend the couple hundo and get a set of H&R or something like that.

hey,
I love the porsche seats in your car! Do you have any pics of the install? What's the seat height situation? How much taller (if at all) is it over the stock seats?
thanks!

interested in the taillights... email sent

fantastic write-up, it's inspired me to refurbish my pedal box and clean up my shoddy interior. Your attention to detail and photo documentation answered many questions that wouldn't have known to ask.

hey,

the non-s@*tty answer is you've got it right on, no need to honk down to the point it throws your alignment off.

This is a huge part of why I dig classic BMW's. My last car was a classic (not really) 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro, which is an amazing car, it's cool looking and a classic, and it's quattro, but there's no model or dealer support for a car of that age. My 71 has less NLA than the quattro, a car 20 years it's junior.

I'll take the door latches if you've still got them.

Not sure if you'd checked the bulbhousings yet, but i've just gone down this road over the weekend! I'd hit a bump and one or two lights would stop working, then reach in from outside and jiggle the lead and it would start to work again.
How I fixed this, clean the heck out of the bulbhousings using a brass brush and scotchbrite. Then clean the leads and trunk ground. THEN I took my trusty soldering gun and put a dab of slag inside each hole. just a small amount to make a good ground against the bulb base and the side of the bulbhousing.
good luck

ok, so i guess i've destroyed the petronix somehow? I tried it using the old coil (blue), and the new petronix coil... no sparky. next step is to reinstall everything back to the way it was.
-
I've been sifting through the ignition posts, and the consensus seems to be that I'm going to need to add the ballast resistor? Does this sound correct to anybody?
-
Ok, so I have a 71 2002, mech advance, blue coil, no ballast resistor.
Today, I tried to install a petronix flame thrower with the recommended coil.
In order to properly route the wires for the eye, I had to remove the distributor, and reinstall.
Using the Haynes, I used the ball bearing as TDC, and set the distributor to hit at 1.
Car does not fire, and there's no spark.
Anybody gone through this?
So I'm an idiot! 180° off! I put everything back to TDC, and installed dist CORRECTLY, fired right up!
thanks for all the input everybody!
