  1. Yea, patience was wearing thin for a minute there, but some gym time and being able to turn to here for info really helped. Thanks Again All.
  2. Ok, got the TPS to read 2-3% constant now. Tried to fire and only glugs came of it, but I could tell it was trying. So I messed with the fuel, spark map, and timing settings, and SUCCESS!!!!! Fired it up twice without any hesitation (until it got up just past idle, then some hesitation) Now I just have to figure out what's up with the TPS and some minor tweaks to the settings and it's good to go. Thanks Everyone For All The Help/Suggestions I Really Appreciate It!!! -Mark
  3. Yeah I think that would work out. I'm going to check this TPS again and maybe try some other stuff. I just need this to run so I can move on to the next part of the project. I'll e-mail you with some pics and the update as to where I'm at, if it's not obvious by this thread.
  4. Hey JohnC can you e-mail me so I can have your e-mail address to get that log to you. mine is markbehm at hotmail dot com
  5. No stim. Got the unit from DIYautotune, so I assumed it would work. I guess I should never assume anything though. Should I order a stim or see if anyone has one local?
  6. Now I'm more angry than before. even with 96% throttle reading and flooding and so on, I got 1, yes 1! full cycle as far as I can tell. Maybe it was just a hick-up or the megasquirt is playing with me, getting a good laugh at my expense (makes me wish my car had a face I could punch without getting a broken hand). I can't get it to repeat itself and even fire once again. So it seems that the TPS is the problem. I've checked wiring again and again. All tests out just fine and reads smoothly on the meter, but still nothing. Not even the slightest change when throttle is moved. Any ideas??? I'm about ready to give someone a great deal on a 2002 with megasquirt. Just needs tuning. Offers now being taken reserve set at $0.50 I'll even throw in all the original parts and Weber 32/36 carb. All you need is more patience than I have. ^Look for this post soon^
  7. Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to retrace all the wires and test everything again. The TPS does test correctly on the meter according to the megamanual and other sources. I will try flood clear check the basics and post the findings. I'm thinking it's something so stupid that it's just flying right under the radar. Maybe I should just building my own map instead of using a base from someone else? Is it a bad idea to begin with someones map that works on their car? I thought it would be a good jump start, but maybe wrong.
  8. Ok 2 new details. 1) the tps either reads 5, 94, 95, or 96% no matter what order the wires are set into the relay board. I checked spark and it seems the order is correct, but I can't tell as it is the wasted spark and the light flashes just too much. I seem to be on some of the time for cyl #1 but then it looks like it shifts a lot, I think this is due to the funky spark all the time. 2) I'm not sure the megasquirt is holding the info from my laptop. I burned everything in and turned off the ecu. I know there is a way to do it from the dos prompt but cant find that info again. is the best way just to turn off the car and back on the reset ecu? <--if that doesn't make sense I'll try to explain better. If anyone needs pics of my stuff let me know and I'll get them to you ASAP. But for now time to go to the gym to blow off some steam.
  9. I have a map loaded from themoose (thank you by the way). Fuel is working injectors are working tps says 96% no matter what I do, spark is fine (i tested on the body). I can't figure what is going on with it not turning over and firing. it will crank just fine and fuel is getting into the cylinders (pulled a spark plug and cranked for a sec. to see if the fuel was pumping in). My set up is Ford: 19lb injectors, EDIS, VR sensor 318: TB, fuel reg, intake manifold Jeep IAC (with adapter from Tom at 02again) DYI IAT Nissan TPS (from Tom at 02 again) NO 02 sensor plugged in yet and thats all i can think of. I've looked through the megamanual several times and according to that I should be good and everything should run fine. Any help would be appreciated. If I can get more maps or something I dunno what to do. I'm stuck Thanks -Mark
  10. I went to the junkyard this past weekend and saw something really weird. It was a '84 e30 convertible with square headlights. I've never seen or heard of it before. I looked it up on google and only came up with one image that had it (bright green). So I'm guessing that it's some kind of conversion kit. I don't know but it did make me do a double take passing by it knowing full well that it was a BMW but with a strange headlight setup. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this before? I thought it might be a "limited"(stupid idea BMW designers abandoned really fast) euro version or something, but it doesn't seem like it after doing the search. Less exciting for everyone, but pat on the back for me, I figured out how to add pics in a thread :-)
  11. SUCCESS AT THE YARDS. WOOHOO!!! I got a 318i TB, 325i TB, Jeep IAC connector with a long pigtail, 80amp alt with brackets, and cables for battery relocation. I did find something weird there though. It was a '84 convertible with square headlights. I've never seen or heard of it before. I looked it up on google and only came up with one image that had it (bright green). So I'm guessing that it's some kind of conversion kit. I don't know but it did make me do a double take passing by it knowing full well that it was a BMW but with a strange headlight setup. I'm going to post pics in a different off topic thread.
  12. Thanks for the info and the pic fixing(maybe you could tell me how to do that so I can post the rest of my pics in my project blog and not have to inconvenience anyone else to do it). I'm going to the yards in the morning. I think I will pick up the 325 TB, but definitely look into the Jeep TB. My only other concern is the throttle cable setup. I have seen lots of them and got a few drawings of what others have built. Maybe I'll pick up a throttle cable tomorrow too. Any suggestions on what car to get it from and what length I should shoot for? I was thinking an older Honda Civic or Nissan Sentra because they are shorter and very easy to take out. Another question for anyone. What injectors are the best to use? I've heard 19lbs are great and easy to come by. I have the injectors from the 318 I pulled the other parts from, and I have some from my Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-v parts car. They are 310cc which is roughly 30lbs. Is that too much? I do plan on adding boost very soon so maybe not to bad to go with the bigger injectors. I just don't want to have a rough time tuning right out the gate. I already feel like I've gotten in way over my head. I spent 4 hours every night for the last 4 nights reading as much of the megamanual as I could, but can't seem to make sense of some of it. Maybe it will make more sense once I start tuning (I hope). I have a lot more questions but don't know if I should post them here, in separate threads, or in my project blog. What is the best way to go with those questions?
  13. It would be great to have a decent base map to start off. If you could e-mail it to me. my e-mail address is markbehm @ hotmail . com Also, could you send me some details, and maybe a pic, of the throttle cable set-up you are using? I just ran into another problem. The 318i throttle body i got with the intake manifold was corroded around where the IAC adapter plate is supposed to go. I tried to take it off and broke all 3 screws that went into it. Then I tried to drill out the remaining screws, but that doesn't seem to work. Now I get to buy another one. I am opting for the 318 TB for now, but maybe because of the break will go to the 325 and talk to Tom at 02again to pick up an adapter plate for it. I'm not sure which way to go. I can get a brand new 318 TB for about $100, or a new 325 TB for about $200. So that's where I'm stuck. Just so i know what is the correct throttle bodies I can use for this? just the 318i and 325i or does the 325is,ix, or any others work too?
  14. It is a '75, and was automatic but I changed it to a 4-speed trans. I recently had the head redone to stock spec. So I suppose it would be considered stock all around except for the 32/36 Weber and now the EDIS system. I am about to start switching over to the efi setup with the 318 manifold, 318 throttle body, fuel rail, etc... There is no AC or smog equipment anymore(it is a California car). One other question I have is about the alternator. Do I have to upgrade to a 80+ amp one, or is the stock one ok to run for initial set-up?
  15. Ok, I got everything all worked out. A buddy came over and changed one of the EDIS wires. I believe from VR sensor to EDIS Pin 5 and 6 were reversed, and the battery needed a little more charge after attemtping to start it so much. So I guess now all I need is a good ignition set up to load into the megasquirt.
  16. I installed the EDIS, megasquirt computer, and relay board yesterday. I tried to fire it up and got nothing. I'm not sure if the jumpers on the PCB are correct. They look like they are and after reading in the megamanual I think I did everything correct, but I can't figure out why it won't fire up. I will post up the pics of the board and the connections. Here are the jumpers: JS9(+12C)-->S12C JS10(IGN)-->IGN (1A)JS0-->IAC1A (1B)JS1-->IAC1B (2A)JS2-->IAC2A (2B)JS3-->IAC2B TSEL-->OPTOOUT XG2-->XG1 TACHSELECT-->OPTOIN The other thing I noticed is that on the daughter board attached the JP5(B/LD) (here is a link to DIYautotune pic of what I am referring to: http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/cpu-megasquirtii-daughterboard-p-86.html it is the small black square on the bottom right of the board right on the bottom edge) has a small piece that is not connecting the 2 posts, but is on one side. So I guess that means they are not linked. I tried to take a picture of it, but it is way to small for the cam to focus on. If anyone has a suggestion or knows what is wrong please post up here or e-mail me at markbehm@hotmail.com Any help would be great. 17. Update on the projects. I got the suspension done about 3 weeks ago and got busy with life. This week I am installing the megasquirt. I just got done installing the EDIS system, relay board, and megasquirt comp. So now I have the EDIS with a 32/36 carb. If I can get this running smooth then I'll continue with the fuel injection set-up. I have pics of the process coming up soon, but I do have some questions. 1) When I hook up my laptop to set parameters it comes back with something like, "incompatible INI sending 2.8800 receiving 2.6000." If anyone has any suggestions please let me know how to change this. I have tried in the configurations but it doesn't seem to change anything. 2) I'm not sure if there is actually spark going into the engine. Is there an easier way to check if there is anything getting there? I tried to take the plug out and crank the engine but nothing. Maybe the computer is not sending the info to the relay board and the EDIS???? Please Help More to come soon.
  18. ok so i got called into work, but im back now. got out the "super friendly" pipe wrench and one side is off now. took about 3min and 5 good smacks with a hammer on the end of the wrench. thanks all for the suggestions. ceck my project blog for pics soon. next up efi/megasquirt install.
  19. cool, i have those channel locks. i just got off the phone with a friend and he said take them to a machine shop and they will get them out with no damage, now if there is a machine shop open on sunday i dont know. ill try the channels and hopefully the 3 days of soak in WD40 and all kinds of other unstickems will have helped. ill back back if it doesnt work.
  20. i've searched for a while now and cant find what i need to do. im putting HD's and eibachs all around but cant get either of the front struts out? so far i've taken the springs off and dropped the mounts out. i guess i need to pull the sturts out of the sleeve but cant do it. i see a cap that screws on to where the strut goes in but cant seem to get it undone. is that even what needs to happen? heres some pics. hope they help if im not describing it right. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii132/madhaxor_3/bmw%20pics/CIMG0044.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii132/madhaxor_3/bmw%20pics/CIMG0041.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii132/madhaxor_3/bmw%20pics/CIMG0045.jpg any help or reference to a thread would be much appreciated. Thanks Mark
  21. I will definitely be contacting some of you guys soon. I've labeled all my wires and started lay out runs with length guesstimates for now. I'm waiting on the relay cable and I still have to order the EDIS sensor mount, dist. plug, ect, ect from 02again. I would have already but money started to fly out of my pocket landing with other peoples problems (tis the season for giving.....or losing whichever way you look at it). I should be ordering by the 16th so it'll be here soon. Hopefully before the 24th so I can get onto those lifts. Oh yea please send me any info you guys have on anything. Tuning, mounting, wiring, breaking(well fixing the break), anything. I really want to make sure I get this right on the first shot. Oh yea and I dug up the 7+ year old pics of the car, now I just need the scanner and you all can see the Little Beamer(<--this is what my friends call me Beamer but spelled a little different) Beater, kinda works to have the 2002 with it's bimmer name.
  22. Oh and I'll put up pics of the car when I bought it (need to scan those first to get them online), what it looks like now, and anything I do to it from now on to keep everyone updated as much as possible. That way if I need help everyone knows where I'm at and what the problem looks like (I don't mean the look of the car I know that problem already) and everyone can add suggestions and whatnot for me to consider.
  23. In 2005 I joined the military and stored the car at a buddies house. I got injured and medically discharged in 2007 and did nothing about the car until recently. I picked it up January of this year and started to tinker again. Since then I've stripped it to the bone and changed almost everything. I rebuilt the head, did the head gasket put an external fuel pump in. Took almost all wiring out and rewired for racing only, stripped all the paint and sprayed it with primer(white and gray, don't know why 2 colors but I did???) I did some body work to it and started my own flares using the existing panels and pounding them outward I'm sure it sounds funny, but it looks better IMO) Now I am starting to get the Megasquirt/EDIS conversion together. I have to replace all the bushings get new shocks/struts (all the mounts are gone and the car bounces all funny cause of the blown shocks when I move it), and get the racing seat in. My idea for the car is to have it for weekend mountain drives and the occasional autocross, and maybe drive it once in a while to work or school at night. I welcome all suggestions, helpful hints, rants about how ugly it is, or anything you might want to share your 2 cents on. Here is a couple recent posts with questions that I have had about my few upcomming projects megasquirt question: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,333265/ suspension question: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,333266/
  24. I'll start with a little background on the car. 1975 2002A<--I believe that's the right designation for auto. I bought the car almost 8 years ago for $400 (ok so what's wrong with it? scary thought). Not too much bad stuff on it (minor surface rust). Auto trans (now 4 speed), beat up interior (gone. only driver seat's left and I'm replacing it with a Momo race seat I bought about 4 years ago and never used), Solex carb (changed to Weber 32/36), messed up "custom" exhaust piping (now header to cherry bomb "muffler" and a short dump pipe half way down the tunnel), and some POS steel rims I think came off an old civic or something(now rims from a 320 i think? got 'em for free from my buddy that works at an auto shop). When I bought it the guy said it didn't start and he didn't know why or what it needs to fix it, and that it has been sitting since 1997<--uh oh here it 2002 this could be bad. So I towed it to my parents house (I was 17 at the time) and checked it over. Seems that all it needed was a new battery(none in the car at all, no wonder it didn't turn over), oil, and fuel(both completely dry)! After those 3 things it started right up. I put new auto trans fluid in it and I backed it out of the driveway and did a few "victory" laps around the parking lot across from their house. I then brought it back to do the important stuff that I should have done before the laps. Compression test, fuel pressure readings, fuel and oil filter change...ect...ect. After a few small changes and tuning I only drove it every once in a while to keep it fresh, but nothing big happened for a few years, except the folks being annoyed that it was at their house taking up space.
  25. WOW! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! To everyone that posted responses already(and those of you who probably haven't seen this yet and will post). This is my first real post and I can't believe that I got this many usable responses in 1 day. Again thanks. You've all given me things that I've overlooked, dismissed as unimportant, or thought were unnecessary to change. The car is a 1975 2002A<--I think that's the automatic designation(not auto anymore though) and some other extras. I do have an aftermarket fuel pump, but i think it's pressured for a carb(LP) I dont know. With that I ran a rubber fuel line in the car, again don't know the rating for it. Would stainless or some other type of metal be better? I'll keep searching cause some people have very detailed posts about this from what I've seen in the past few years. I think I'm going to start a project thread so people can follow along and help point out the stuff I miss or help me figure out what I messed up in the process. If those that have replied, will reply, or know what to do and just read want to follow along that would be much appreciated. Thanks again! Mark
