  1. Use some RTV silicone if you really really want to, otherwise just replace the gasket. Only thing is there's an order in which to tighten the acorn nuts on top, but I don't have it here with me right now. Also, the oil pressure sender is easy, I ended up using a 7/8" deep impact socket since that's the only thing that would fit and torqued it to I think 25ft-lbs. Just make sure to use a new crush washer, which should be included. Also the 121 and e12 heads used different threads for the sender so be aware of that.

Very cool, Thanks for the help.

    Chris

  2. I know this may be a newb question, but sometimes I get timid when it comes to doing things that require pulling my engine apart. I have traced an oil leak to the valve cover gasket, and some to the oil pressure sender (unsure of the exact terminology). I have acquired both parts, and am eager to get my hands dirty with the repair, but I am unsure of the exact procedure. Is it as simple as removing the cover and installing the new gasket? Should I get some silicone to coat the gasket? Any words of FAQ wisdom are good. You guys are the professionals, and maybe one day I will be able to chime in on a Forum question such as this.

  3. This is all great stuff guys. I really appreciate the assistance. I finally got the engine yanked out of this body yesterday. She didnt want to come out, but really had no choice. We did more body damage than good, I guess it would be a different story if we were keeping the car. Does anyone know whether the front valance is interchangable? Mine is cleaner than the '72. I was thinking about just cutting that out and bringing it to a body guy and telling him to cut the bad one out of the '72. Cheaper than repairing I would think.

  4. Ok, trunk lid is the biggie, as the '72 I am looking at is in far worse shape than the one off my '74. Anything else you guys can help out with is appreciated. I am in the process of figuring out what I am willing to part with and what I should keep for the sake of spares for the '72. Cheers mates.

  5. I have a '74 that is all but a parts car, and am in the process of picking up a '72. Both are non-Tii's. How much compatability is there between the two years minus the obvious differences. Most importantly is the compatability of trunk lids. Any help is good help. Thanks Mates, and have a great Thanksgiving.

  8. i guess i was a bit vague in the original description. back to business i guess. there are definitely some trouble areas, but what i was most concerned with was getting everything out of the car. i would like this to be more of a weekend/autocross car, and i think it would be a good one. i was more asking, well...i am sort of afraid of taking absolutely everything off the car and not knowing where to put everything when it comes time to put it back together, hah. i sort of have a bond with this car too i think, its birthdate is shared with mine, strange...but i love the car, but i am just looking for suggestions i guess.

  9. Ok,

Well, me and my father bought a '74 2002 about 6 months ago, and have been stripping it ever since. Here and there of course, maybe a task at a time, so it has taken a bit to get where we are at now. I have found us to be at a standstill. We bought it becuase we like the car, and partly for me to get a better understanding of how a car works (I know what you are thinking:"hell of a car to learn on". hah. I am thinking the exact thing right now. i guess my real question is, "what next". we made the decision to completely strip it, as there is a decent amount of rust present, not more than i have seen some, but there is quite a bit, but for the most part, it seems to be solid in the places that really count. Here are some pics as the car sits now:

Any help would be great, i just dont know what to do next. What does a good preservation job cost (i.e. sanding, stripping, primer, paint, any welding etc...) Any help is good help mates!
