I run 185/60/13's on my '76 they are Sumitomo HTR 2000's. They are a good all around tire and I am very pleased with them, especially at $50 a corner from the Tire Rack. Go through the FAQ store and LIFE IS GOOD. Good inexspensive tires and a portion of the sale goes to the site.

I bought a '76 with plates intact that had fallen off of the DMV radar (not registered for over 5 years).

I was required to provide a smog certificate and get the car "verified" either by a police officer or a DMV employee. I did have a title and registration showing those plates for that car. That was it. I accomplished this at the Santa Clara DMV which is apparently one of the easier branches to deal with.

I think it is a 26mm socket, that a few love taps with a hammer and wiggle it off.

PS you can get the socket on the bolt then wedge the breaker bar against the frame or the ground and "bump" the engine with the starter and the bolt will break free

You need one of those valve tools that looks like a giant "C" clamp.

That Herculiner is damn near bullet proof, I have seen it endure dents an inch deep and not release from the metal.

you can try pulling them back to under the rear seat and see if it clears.

From there it runs along the drivers rocker to up under the dash, you can just keep following them back. I am willing to bet the problem is under the carpet and not under the dash but stranger things have happened.

The wiring for the belts comes from under the rear seat and along the sides of the tranny hump to the base of the stems. If you carefully lift the carpet at the base of the seat belt stems you can access the plugs.

You can get it off with giant channel locks, wrap it with a rag first so that you don't mung it up though.
