Done that a few times but I used a 242 4 speed from a euro 316 E21 to convert a 245/10 close(323i) to M10.

I have some 245 M20 bellhousing´s laying around anyone interested in a trade?

The transmission on the picture is a plain 4 speed, I bet my balls on that.

I have a real 245/10 closeratio if anyone is interested, 2000$.

The best transmission for a M20 conversion is a 245/10 Close ratio from an euro 323i E21.

I have one in good condition and it can be yours for 2000$ plus shipping to US as I´m in Europe.

I can send you an M20 bellhousing for the for a 245 overdrive if you wish to install one in your M20.

Just tried that myself today... not much luck with the rags

I worked it out sticking 2 small pieces of rubber insulated electric cable behind the valve. Like 8mm thick.

Strong enough to hold the valve open, no damage and fast to use.

And if the cam bearing hits a rocker you can press it out of the way with a big screwdriver(shove it between the rocker and its adjuster and pull).

Got a new way to disassemble heads!
