  1. Got it. I did end up finding this procedure in the Intereurope Workshop manual but the Haynes does not seem to mention this requirement. Sadly the Clymer has pictures and everything. 3 manuals and I still screwed it up.......
  2. I did not know about oiling the distributor. Thanks, I'll try it. I forgot to mention that my tensioner piston is new. I took the old one out and it measured 57MM insted of the specified 61MM. I think the noise was reduced by it is still noisey.
  3. I have a car that sat for years and I've been trying to sort it out. I don't have any history on it except that it was had not ben registered since 2001. The car idles fairly poorly even above 1000 rpm. The exhaust intermittantly has a faint "pop" noise, mabye a backfire? While driving the car has a slight "bucking" sensation. The timing chain sounds noisey and the timing mark in the transmission hole dances back and forth more than I think it should (nothing to compair it to except non-BMW stuff). Before I buy a new chain/pulleys/guides, I'm hoping to get some feedback from the group. I think that the timing is moving enough to cause the poor idle/bucking symptoms. If it wasn't for the noise in the front of the motor I'd be suspiscous of the distributor. The car runs well enough that I'll drive it 25 miles to work but I know it can run much better. Here is what I've done so far: *electric fuel pump installed (mechanical was dead) *compression is about 130psi but 1 cylinder requires a spoon of oil to achieve this result. I did not do a leak down, yet.... *disassembled & cleaned the Weber 32/38. Set float at 35mm. *used "best-lean" set-up guide for mixture. *new plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, capasitor, points *decarboned engine with some Motorcraft stuff *new timing tensioner piston Thanks Guys.........
  4. I installed C/A bushings from BAVAUTO recently. I was unable to install the outer control arm bushings. I even took them to work to use the press and a unlimited supply of pipe and hardware and lube. Besides the fact that the bushing would not press into the control arms, the metal sleaves did not have the correct insided diameter. If I had been able to install the bushings, the trailing (leading) link would not have fit into the bushing!! Examine all your parts before you begin.....good luck.
  5. Cup holders are manditory and it has to be big-gulp compatible! I've got a Walmart gizmo next to my e-brake lever! I did not rest until I found a arm rest w/cup holder from my E30. The Miata had holders in it until I turned it into road race only. (I'm addicted to Coke, diet that is) This is my '02 rookie year. The car I bought has a smashed console so I am interested.

Due to my ceiling height, I can max out the lift with the Miata but not the '02. Buy the lift. Buy it now......
  7. I have a small pump that I run with a drill motor (benifits of working in a factory maintenance setting). I got tired of trying to squeeze gear oil bottles by hand to push the lube through plastic tubing. Before I got the mechanical pump, I used to stab a bottle of fluid with a inflation needle (for a football etc) and used a tire pump to push the fluid in. It mostly worked.......
  8. Pop3y3, What happened to cause you not to go to Blau? Last summer I was on 471 headed north toward Cincy and a very clean "tan" 2002 merged onto the freeway. Could that have been you?
  9. Pop3y3, I'd love to met some local '02 guys soon. My car is drivable so what the heck! I hope you to hear from you. I had just bought plug wires and a tensioner piston after work on the day of the wreck, down at Just BMW/Blau Mit Weiss on Redbank. If I only would have BS'd the parts guy a few more minutes I would have missed that old hag that nailed me! DLH, Thanks for the insperation. Call me at 513-382-6487 anytime. I installed a lift in my garage so come on over! The person that hit me was a 77 year old women. She ran so I had to follow her about 3 miles while on the phone with the Police.
  11. Yes, a chrome bumper car would have been much worse. I was still rolling or otherwise this car probably been beyond repair.
  12. I shipped a 1976 rust free, never-been-wrecked-before project home to Ohio from Sacramento last fall. After many hours of work I got it running pretty good, Eibachs, shocks, all new stearing stuff etc. Yesterday on the way home form work, wham-o, right in the arse.
  13. Sure did. The re-boot waited for me to pick an option between original and 512. I guess I'll try pulling a RAM chip just to see if the program will run. Chad.
  14. I rolled my Adobe back to 6.01 and edited the boot.ini for the 512MB option. I still get the "Run Time 2004, out of memory" error. Are there any other tricks? I'm running XP Pro, SP2 P4 3Ghz 1GB RAM Thanks Chad.
  15. There is a parked white 02 in Rush Hour. It is visable at some point when Tucker and Chan are riding in the black Vette.
