that's great. i want to do that when i grow up.
-
yeah, i do my best to hose it down aftewards. i have
a big garage to hose it down in. takes about a half hour. i tried
to get out early before the salt trucks hit too much and take the side
roads where they haven't been yet. it's at Northern Ky. University.
i had no reason to go out other than a joy ride. these cars are
the best in the snow. i blow by everybody, even a couple 4x4s. now
she sits. i'll be driving the Passat wagon FWD. (

I suspect you could make one out of a soft plastic spray can cap (like carburetor cleaner), a (don't laugh) cut down Dannon Yoghurt container or a small Tupperware container swiped from the kitchen.
But with all the dead heater boxes out there, someone's bound to have a spare...

The MacGyver of 2002's. You are a genius when it comes to
the "workaround". like having an empty mylar wine bag in your
trunk for water. i admire that kind of thinking. what else you do
you keep in your trunk for emergencies?
i think you should start a FAQ about this kinda stuff.
-
...you talk your significant other into taking the "baby" when going out.
...you look at later model BMW's and think "if i had that i would sell it and buy 5 2002s"
...you baby talk to your car like "you're so good lookin! yes you are, yeeeess youuu ARE!

my PO installed an after market sunroof. but i forgive him for it. he sold the car to me $1400.

significantly better than most of that mindless dribble you typically post.
in C.D.'s defense, he has helped countless people, myself included,
with his vast knowledge. so he had a patriotic moment. big deal.

post a mounted pic please

the problem was rpm's were too high. before you start the car depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor once. that will close choke and the engine should idle at a higher rpm (around 1500) when it starts. then when the engine reaches temp you depress gas again and the rpm drops to normal (800-900). there is an adjustment screw for the fast idle cam. it should be located where i stated above depending on which carb you are using.
-
"Cold start screw" how is it different?
The fast idle adjustment screw is the similar, if not identical in the electric choke and water heated choke assemblies. If you had a manual choke with pull cable, it would obviously be different.
Same fast idle cams, etc. Step away from the carb cleaner and starting fluid!
there is a screw to adjust for the fast idle
cam when choke is engaged.
it was idling about 2500 and i backed it down
to 1500 (not the idle speed on the back side of carb).
end result, i fixed my problem
step away from your keyboard, dipstick

found out why it wouldn't idle.
bad vacuum advance. i disconnected
the hose and let it hang. idles great.
also found the cold start idle screw.
there a screw between the electric choke
and the body of the carb. it is different than
older 32/36's as i had my old one to compare
it to.

thanks c.d.
i am going to tinker around with it tonight. i need to figure out what you mean by 3rd, 2nd, 1st cam step. i assume you mean the points of where it stops during cold start. 3rd being the highest idle point. i do know that if it is cold idling and i just barely step on the gas it drops almost to stalling making me think that it skips #2 step.
-
thanks for the suggestions guys. i will check all these things and let you know.

2) primary idle mixture too low.
i have thought of that/tweaked it in the past.
it idles fine (8-900) but then it drops
after 10-15 minutes of driving. restart
will correct it. if i try to adjust the idle mix
when it drops, then when it will idle too
high when it corrects itself (or whatever the issue is).
i will try to adjust the mix again as you suggest.
confusing.

translation is "Run Note". maybe an info card/paper from the production line?

...for the Weber guru's
1) where is speed adjust screw for the
cold start idle? when i start it cold the
RPM hits 3k. i need to tone that down a bit (by half!)
2) once the car warms up it idles fine and driving
with no problems. then i come to a stop and the
idle drops to like 100 to almost dying. i can re-start
and the idle comes back to normal (800-900). ok for a
bit then happens again. this happens almost every
time i drive. what gives?
Weber 32/36, elec. choke, new (1 yr old)
any help is greatly appreciated.

nothing here. has a couple flurries but not enough for the salt trucks. i'm in no hurry for them either for as you know mine's a daily driver.
-
love it! sweet a$$ car!
-
The front end will be more prone to push instead of turn.
that is where you hone your drifting skillz. battery in the trunk helps.
-
i drive mine in the snow and love it! i am aware of the rust dangers but "it goes like bloddy hell"! it is truely a blast. i do my best to hose it off after each drive in the basement. someday (hopefully soon) it will be parked and i'll start dismanteling for body resto.
