  1. @markmac I agree with @kbmb02. The 8 bolt guibo is not suitable for track. If you want to retain originality go ahead but be prepared to replace just about every weekend and even then you may have one come apart. The 6 bolt guibo is much stronger.

Metric Mechanic has remade the 6 bolt flange for the 235/5 box - they use them on their builds and if they will sell you one I would suggest this. I have seen enough
collateral damage from guibos exiting the chat that it seems it would be the time to do it.

  2. Attached is a picture of a. NOS cluster. The colour is the same on the underside which would indicate it hasn’t been destabilized by light, UV etc.

This colour seems to align with a few other turbos I have seen that have a similar surround - I always thought it was more vibrant until I saw these 4 clusters in person - all exactly the same. The colour is a fair bit more brown than vibrant red.

The bigger issue IMO is matching the texture of the cluster, every one I have seen that is repainted has been sanded smooth and glossy and the factory part is textured.

also attached is a picture of an NOS steering box for interest. I think the turbo cluster and red steering box paint is quite similar.

  3. At the risk of making general assumptions, many in our hobby want to call and chat. This can be the death of a small business particularly when you have limited staff and bandwidth and answering the phone comes at the expense of shipping a part. Not saying it is right or wrong, just the reality. A small business could spend hours a day fielding questions and calls that don't result in revenue.

I have ordered 3 times in the last few months from IE through the web without issue. On the most recent one I did a horse trade with another customer on a core they sent to IE to see if a repair could happen. I emailed them CC'ed the customer confirming that their part would be returning to me.

Guess what happened? Everything arrive as requested.

Could they improve, sure, but the reality is that the market (us) no longer pay for expertise, we want lowest price and highest peer review.

I have bigger concerns with the shipping they charge me to Canada.

    Thank you team IE.

  4. Hi team, I thought this was discussed earlier but couldn’t find the thread.

has anyone uncovered the significance of the red vs blue tagged KKK turbos? Are these both original? Same housing, same model ending in 1259 307

    regards,

  5. The subframe was modified by Schnitzer in period. So it is not as easier as swapping a new one. It is pretty simple to make a jig off of a good subframe and transfer to the new one. Just needed the mount to make it work

I think we have it covered, thanks to those that responded:

    Description:

    Hi All,

I have a pair of Red Dot struts that are mismatched. One is a NK and one is a TII. The knuckle on the NK is different. I can either machine the tube out and replace with a TII knuckle (risky) or see if someone can use the spare.

The NK one is the wider bolt spacing.

We are talking about a T5 transmission, using a VAC adapter found through the link below.

So what do we need. Just a 265 bellhousing and this adapter?   What about the throwout bearing and clutch assembly? I how bad is the cutting?  Are we moving the gas pedal?

  8. I have never seen a black one, they are sort of mix of anthracite / grey. I can confirm on 2 original cars they are different shades.

I think sometimes we get wrapped around the axle on what is right and what is correct, these cars were never built to collect, and on a very short production run they iterated as they went.

I would be more interested the quieter it was.  Or at least with a quiet option.  Obviously I'm getting old because it's too damned loud!!!  Or could just be the intake, don't know really.  And it would probably need to pick up the dual outlet s14 header, or better, have a 2 into 1 collector that bolts up to the header, with a slip joint (?) to the rest of the exhaust to better help with alignment...  (I'm the retard that doesn't use the stock '02 subframe... so who knows where my engine is compared to everyone else.)

IRDAVE yes, mine is very loud (Magnaflow resonator and custom stainless muffler) the 2002 turbo exhaust is just about right louder on an s14 for sure.

Given that the 2002 turbo center muffler is not available from BMW, going the Quicksilver route makes sense for me - waiting to hear back on the change from 2.25" to 2.5"

  10. Curious if there is any interest in a 2002 turbo (OEM pattern) exhaust made in 2.5" tubing in stainless? This is would effectively be a copy of the turbo exhaust but made with larger diameter tubing. Same hangers, mounting, look etc.

This would be for s14 swapped 2002s but use a custom 2.5" 2002 turbo exhaust.

  11. Hi All,

I hate airing dirty laundry but I have 4 distributors (014) in for rebuild at a California based specialist.

What was promised in 3 weeks has now been 5 months, the last 2 without any communication. At this point I just want the distributors back as is - whatever condition they are in. Ideas?

  12. Hi All,

Curious about the turbo studs. I have seen both styles on factory turbos and assumed that the studs with uniform diameter were incorrect and that the reduced diameter ones were the correct ones (this is what you get from BMW when you order 11651260838). The photo top right is from the original turbo brochure.

Also anyone have a source for the original style hose clamps with screw (slotted) rather than the updated worm gear style?

    Thanks

    Anthony
