  1. LimeySteve summed it up for me as well. I like the color, but I generally prefer the trim on these cars. It breaks up the paint and adds some contrast and definition. Personally, I have never liked flares. But it is a good looking car and hopefully a good running car. Just need to find the right buyer who appreciates the look you have created.

You asked for a critique, on 1st look your car is too monochromatic , to me it looks very 80's. In my opinion you need some BMW bling, rain gutter trim, chrome tail light bezels, rear 2002 badge( not painted), chrome front & rear screen locks , rear bumper will look great, but not a deal killer. black cam cover kills the engine bay, polish or paint a contrasting color ,(be creative ) add the under hood decals too ,they add an interesting detail .Rear wheels/ tires are too small & look lost in the turbo arches, get a wood steering wheel yours looks cheap (too monotone again )The interior you are already tidying (good ) remove the tan mats they look cheap too.

IMHO not too much outlay will get you a nicer more detailed looking 02.

    My 02 c worth ;)

    Cheers

    Steve

  2. Trying to get a general sense of the range of cost for bodywork and paint as well as interior restoration. I know these are general questions and there are lots of variables.

Assume usual rust areas for a 2002. Front valance, some surface stuff, wheel wells. Shock towers and fuel cell are good. Strip to metal and paint.

    Interior. New carpet and upholstery.

Not looking for exact numbers, but ball park figures, perhaps based upon work people have had done recently.

    Thanks for any comments.

  3. There are discussions in Minnesota about taxing based upon miles driven. With the increasing prevalence of alternative fuel vehicles, the Dept of Transportation foresees losing out on millions of dollars in revenue used to rebuild infrastructure as more and more cars avoid the gas pump all together. There is a test starting here where devices are being fitted to cars to track mileage and other usage patterns.

  4. Thanks for the insights. I agree that for near $20,000 the car should be in the major areas close to great or excellent shape. If the dollars are spent on substantive things...engine, drive train, suspension etc... and those are done well, I can overlook some cosmetics. But there are some weird things about this car.

  5. so far so good. ive had it out for 3k miles now. little of those miles have been sitting in the hot sun as its normally in a garage when its not moving but it hasnt come down yet. i think several years will be a better test but all is ok so far. ive very impressed with how quiet my car is with all the sound proofing i did. stereo sounds awesome at 70MPH and you can carry on a conversation nicely but all this comes at about a 70lb weight penalty

Hence the need for the S14 motor!!

  6. With the exception of the AMT problem, a home equity line is probably the way to go. Bank has a secured loan and you can write off the interest. Nobody is going to loan money of the dollars we are discussing if the end result is going to be a much lower total value. Although depending upon your income, you might be able to get an unsecured loan for a large amount.
