Just an FYI I am moving soon and need to pass this car on. Anyways, on to the car

I have owned this car since June of 2013.  This car is in a way a junkyard rescue.  I first found the car on ebay while looking at listings for 2002’s as I was contemplating picking one up.  As it turns out, the car was being held for a friend at a junkyard 15mi from my parents house, and I just had enough saved up to get the car.  The owner of the junkyard said that the car had sat for the previous 10 years until the then owner decided to list the car.  I’m not 100% sure, but I think the car was someone’s project until they lost interest/moved on/passed away (I never found out the exact story.)  When I went to look at the car, the man said that when they initially got the car, they changed all fluids and plugs and the thing fired right up.  Sure enough, the car did the exact same thing when I started it that day.  I paid the man and drove the car back to my parents with the only issue being a leaky rubber fuel tank filler boot.

The engine has been replaced at one point in the cars life as the numbers do not match.  I suspect this was due to an overheating issue as an aftermarket but period correct VDO water temp gauge has been installed in the car that works flawlessly.  The “new” engine seems to be completely stock, as it has the single barrel Solex carb on it.  Since purchase I have replaced all rubber fuel lines, fuel filter, new plugs and wires, and had new points installed by Bavarian Performance Specialists in Thousand Oaks, CA.  While the car was there, the owner of BPS, Hal (he’s worked on these cars since they first came out), gave the car a good lookover and declared it a good, mechanically solid car.

The body of the car, as you can see, has some blemishes.  The crucial parts of the body are in great condition: both rear towers are clean and have the original paint still intact, the rear sub-frame mounts are clean and strong, front frame rails are clean, as well as both sub-frames.  Both rockers have rust due to clogged sunroof drains and sitting, as well as the spare tire well, but these are the worst parts.  The rest you can see in the pictures.  The car has been re-sprayed and the trunk lid was replaced at some point as well but the patina this car shows looks great and gives the car a ton of character.  Despite the rust, the body would make a great resto project or left the way it is as it is a real head turner.  The car also has a working hand crank sunroof that is sticky, but does work.  The headliner and carpet are rough and could use to be replaced as well as the rear seat.  The driver seat was in really bad shape when I got the car.  The seat frame was bent bad and one of the recliner gears was stripped, so I swapped it for a Corbeau fixed back seat and bracket and installed a Simpson lap harness at the same time.

Over the past few years I have performed a number of repairs on the car.  The car has received the following: new brakes including re-manned front calipers, braided brake lines, wheel bearings, bushings front and rear, strut bushings, new steering rods and ball joints, a new clutch slave cylinder, new guibo, every light has had the bulbs replaced including the cluster, Ireland engineering sway bars, fixed front camber plates, and I recently installed brand new Bilstein HD shocks front and rear (they probably have about 1500mi on them now) with stock springs that have 1 coil cut out to lower the car a little. The car will come with a few spares as well: plugs, water pump, belt, carb rebuild kit, a good spare, and 6 months left on registration (renews in July.)

My goal for the car was to make a fun canyon/cruise car with “period-esq” mild modifications and currently the car is close to that goal.  But at this time I have since moved on to another project and no longer have the time to dedicate to this wonderful little car.  This car taught me a lot while I had it and I really do hate to see it go, but instead of letting it sit and rot away I feel it best to pass it on to someone who can continue to love on it and enjoy as they seem fit.  The car has never once left me stranded and recently made the trip from Atascadero, CA to Santa Rosa, CA (about 300mi) without a single hiccup, and will do the same for you.  I am open for shipping the car at purchasers expense. Feel free to email/text with any questions.
